Washington Head Logistics Coordinator

Location: Mazama, Washington
Status: Exempt; per diem; Seasonal (7 - 8.5 months)
Salary: $155-$170 per day ($3,359 - $3,684 per month); commensurate with experience
Anticipated Start: March 2024 (Mazama, WA)

This is a seasonal position and exact contract length will be determined once schedules are created after training. Summer season ends 8/23 and our fall season runs until early November. All staff have the opportunity to work into the fall season.

Position Summary

The Head Logistics Coordinator (HLC) supports the Logistics Manager in the overall logistical management of wilderness programming. The HLC manages specific portions of logistics including training, on-site logistical supervision, vehicle fleet management, gear inventory management and repair, food systems and ordering, and warehouse operations. The HLC acts as primary Logistics Coordinator (LC) for multiple courses throughout the season. In addition, the HLC is a member of the administrative team who provide basecamp leadership, course support, and assistance with field emergencies.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities

Program Leadership

• Collaborate as a member of the Base camp Leadership Team to determine and fulfill program needs, goals, and directional strategy.
• Participate in the administration and delivery of all courses to ensure that course quality remains true to Outward Bound mission and Educational Framework.
• Coordinate and ensure follow-through of the feedback system and implementation of change between the field and program team.
• Ensure that policies and procedures are followed, and staff are held accountable. Coordinate and collaborate with all NWOBS departments to ensure a cooperative and supportive system.

Program Quality and Safety Oversight

• Participate in incident command and on-call system by responding to field emergencies.
• Collaborate with the LM to implement basecamp opening/closing schedules and checklists based on program needs and facility functionality.

Site Support

• Collaborate with Base camp Leadership Team to oversee supervision and coordination of early departures and students who are out of the field.
• Participate in base camp set-up and take-down. Participate in daily community meetings and chores. Ensure that all facilities are maintained to the highest standard.

Staff Development and Management

• Support the LM with the development and implementation of logistics staff training, including Driver Training, and ongoing staff professional development.
• Support the LM facilitate regular Logistics Meetings with Logistics Coordinators (LCs).
• Collaborate with the LM to develop Logistic Coordinators, facilitating development plan meetings and exit interviews.
• Supervise day-to-day logistics activities.

Logistics Management

• In coordination with LM, determine program logistical needs and support systems that remain true to the NWOBS mission, purpose, and values.
• Responsible for creating exceptional Warehouse and Food Room organization, operation, and cleanliness.
• Maintain equipment and supplies inventory and coordinate with LM for ordering.
• Manage all onsite equipment repairs
• Manage the Repair and Tool Rooms, including check-out sheets for tools and verifying staff have completed appropriate training.
• Support the LM with vehicle scheduling and maintenance.
• Ensure proper recording of all financial transactions.
• Participate in Logistics Coordinator duties as needed and scheduled.
• Participate in other duties as assigned.

Required Skills and Competencies

• 1-2 years in the field of logistics.
• 1-2 years of experience in the education/outdoor education/experiential learning field or similar combination of experiences and education preferred.
• A demonstrated commitment to engaging in equity, inclusion, and diversity efforts (either within a professional or personal setting).
• Experience working in a team setting and ability to independently resolve conflict or seek support.
• Possess the mental stamina, adaptability, and emotional maturity to work and thrive in remote environments while working long days, on occasion being available to support 24/7.
• Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive work and learning environment.
• Awareness of personal biases and the impact (as opposed to intention) that your language, behavior, or assumptions, may have on those around you.

• Excellent driving skills and record. Must have held driver’s license for at least 5 years and have sufficient skill to drive large vehicles and trailers.
• Previous experience in systems management, related to food and vehicles is preferred.
• Previous experience in a warehouse, gear store, or other equivalent role is preferred.
• Previous experience in outdoor gear repair and sewing is preferred.
• Able to multi-task and prioritize effectively.
• Effective communicator both written and oral.
• Able to work effectively in a dynamic environment. Flexible, adaptable, and open to change.
• Minimum current WFA and CPR required or a willingness to acquire prior to start date.
• Proficient with Excel and tracking systems.
• Able to carry loads up to 50 pounds.
• Able to camp on the ground and participate in wilderness travel.
