Director of Distance Education and Instructional Technology

Position Summary

Manages and directs the distance education program. Primary responsibilities include facilitating the development, implementation, and evaluation of distance education courses and programs, marketing the distance education program. Also, assist with information systems (academic computing) department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Assist with the supervision and evaluation of IT and Distance Education staff.
• Direct the procedures necessary for instructors to develop and deliver distance education courses.
• Direct evaluation procedures to insure effectiveness of distance education courses.
• Develop and maintain Internet web-based courses as needed.
• Develop multimedia material as needed.
• Evaluate and recommend software/hardware related to distance education and college-wide initiatives.
• Work with Dean and SACSCOC liaison to insure distance education courses, programs, and instructors meet accreditation requirements.
• Market distance education programs to the college staff and students.
• Implement distance education policies and procedures.
• Direct the training for distance education faculty and staff.
• Comply with general staff guidelines and policies as set forth by the Alabama Community College System and Northwest Shoals Community College.
• Assist with the College's Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP).
• Facilitate the day-to-day implementation of initiatives and strategies of the QEP.
• Ensure QEP implementation is sustained through continuous input and participation from faculty, staff, students and College leadership.
• Prepare annual QEP reports and present findings to institutional stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance with SACSCOC standards and develop the fifth-year report for submission to SACSCOC.
• Assist with course evaluations and design.
• Assist with learning management system implementation and operation.

Qualifications

• Minimum of a Master's Degree from an accredited institution in Instructional Technology, Information Technology, Education, or related field, required.
• Minimum of three years work experience in distance education in an institution of higher learning, required.
• Teaching experience, preferred.
