We are seeking Veterinary Assistants for the Northwest Spay & Neuter Center which provides spay, neuter, wellness and dentistry services to income qualified homes and local animal welfare agencies. Northwest Spay & Neuter Center is the largest spay and neuter center in Washington state providing over 14,000 surgeries and over 5,000 wellness exams per year.

What you’ll be doing (as part of a team with training):

· Animal Support:

o Examination of incoming animals

o Daily care, feeding, bathing and hygiene

o Initial health tests, vaccinations, and treatment for internal and external parasites

o Assisting with monitoring anesthesia, surgery, dentistry and wellness of shelter and public-owned animals

· Clinic Support:

o Maintaining inventory of food, cleaning, and safety supplies needed for the shelter and/or clinic

o Training new veterinary staff and clinic volunteers

o Promoting a positive image of the organization through positive public relations

o Attending board meetings and fundraising events as needed

What you’ll need to be successful (minimum requirements):

· Ability to engage with animals and humans who may be having a hard day with a commitment to quality care.

· Demonstrated ability to follow instructions, verbal or written, in repetitious tasks and one-off situations.

· Strong communication skills to demonstrate professionalism, courtesy, tact, compassion, and sound judgment to your coworkers and community members.

· Frequent ability to stand, walk or sit for extended periods of time; hear sufficiently; reach, bend, or stoop, regularly lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

This position works daily in a spay, neuter, wellness, and surgery clinic. This position will come in direct contact with animals and will be exposed to animal related smells and sounds.

· Work experience as a Veterinary Assistant.

· Experience in shelter medicine/HQHVSN.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $19.00 - $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
