What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Support Specialist position at Northwestern Community Services Board?
This position requires an incumbent with lived experience of mental health treatment to work as a member of a community-based treatment team providing in-home services to clients with severe and persistent mental illness. This position is responsible for providing skill training, support, and education to help adults with serious and persistent mental illness become successful and satisfied in their living environment of choice. All services are provided as part of a comprehensive treatment team. This position involves weekday afternoon/evening coverage for ACT Team, as well as rotating on-call duty overnights and holidays.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education, training and experience to meet state qualifications as mental health professional or paraprofessional (Qualified Mental Health Professional or Qualified Paraprofessional in Mental Health according to DMAS requirements)
- Professional, clinical experience in the provision of mental health services for clients with serious mental illness, or a combination of education, training, and experience indicating the possession of essential knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform job duties.
- Must possess a valid Driver’s License, good driving record and the ability to provide own transportation. Prefer specialized training and/or certification in peer support services or psychiatric rehabilitation.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- May be exposed to allergenic environments in client’s homes, including extreme heat, humidity, dust, smoke, pet contamination, cleaning supplies, etc.;
- May be exposed to clients with infectious diseases;
- Must be able to drive for long periods of time to visit clients in and out of the catchment area as needed;
- Must be able to walk distances, climb and descend stairs, maneuver in and out of agency vehicles;
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer; and
- Must be able to lift/push/pull up to 25 pounds at times.
