Job Purpose / Function :
The Cleaner is responsible for the daily cleaning of buses and vans. The position also includes clearing the building, the Hub, Driver’s Lounge, and shelters of snow and ice.
Cleaning the interior and exterior of buildings, the Hub, Driver’s Lounge, the grounds, and shelters. Other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
- Sweep and / or vacuum vehicle interiors.
- Clean and sanitize interior vehicle surfaces.
- Steam Clean underside of vehicles
- Empty all trash from vehicles and work area.
- Spot clean all smudges and fingerprints from vehicle surfaces.
- Clean windshields, windows, doors and mirrors.
- Check fire extinguishers and brackets.
- Check and clean dashboard gauges and switches.
- Wash / mop vehicle floors.
- Remove graffiti and gum from all surfaces.
- Check and clean steps, ramps and lifts.
- Check and clean driver and passenger seats.
- Check, straighten and clean advertising signs and lights panels.
- Clean air conditioner grills, rear panels and ceiling panels.
- Clean all stanchion bars, fare box and transfer cutter.
- Ensure radio components are clean and legible.
- Assist Cleaner / Maintainer with building services.
- Perform other duties assigned.
- Clear snow and ice from sidewalks and around the buildings, the Hub, and Driver’s Lounge.
Safety & Security :
- As part of daily duties, maintain the safety and security of the facility :
- Carries out safety and security policies and practices.
- Observes surroundings and notes / reports any changes to supervisor.
- Ensures doors are properly secured
- Report any object that seems out of place in a vehicle or the work area
- Reports any objects that seem out of place while moving about the building
Responsible for contributing to a safe and secure work environment. Is cognizant of surroundings and acts in a safe manner at all times.
Is knowledgeable of and adheres to OSHA, NTD and other safety standards, directives and advisories, both written and verbal.
Uses safety equipment and protective clothing as appropriate and necessary. Maintains good housekeeping habits in work area to avoid injury to self or others.
Immediately reports to their respective supervisor or Manager of Safety and Security any safety or security issue and makes recommendations for improvement.
Observes building access restrictions and locks doors when not present. Knows the nearest two safety exits and participates in safety drills.
This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to random drug and alcohol testing.
Education and Experience Required :
- Graduation from High School or a GED certificate.
- At least two years’ experience in the above work.
- Ability to work effectively in a lightly supervised environment.
- Ability to read and follow directions; to understand properties and safety requirements of working with cleaning chemicals.
- Ability to communicate in writing and verbally with supervisor.
- Knowledge and experience in working with cleaning equipment and snow clearing equipment.
- Safe use of ladders and hand tools.
- Possess a Commercial Driver License.
- Physical Requirements : Must be able to read, write and communicate fluently in English. Frequently required to walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls;
reach with hands and arms; stoop, crouch and kneel. The member must occasionally lift and / or move objects up to 75 pounds.
Work Environment : There will be frequent interaction with employees and customers. The working environment is generally favorable.
Lighting and temperature are adequate. Work is generally performed within a maintenance shop environment.
