What are the responsibilities and job description for the Attorney Recruiting & Development Director position at Nossaman LLP?
We are seeking an experienced Attorney Recruiting & Development Director to lead the Firm’s attorney recruiting, integration, retention and professional development initiatives. The Director will work closely with the Executive Committee, the Attorney Review Committee, practice group leaders and other stakeholders to set priorities and develop and implement strategies and programs in support of Firm goals. The Director is part of the Administrative Management Team and reports to the Chief Human Resources Officer.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Identifying short term and long term hiring needs, and spearheading searches for partners, associates, staff attorneys and summer associates
- Working with recruiters and other candidate sources, reviewing resumes, interfacing with candidates, setting up interviews, coordinating references and background/conflicts checks and preparing offer letters
- Developing and maintaining strategic relationships with recruiters, employment agencies, career services staff at targeted law schools, minority law student associations, diversity bar associations and professional development organizations
- Leading attorney orientation and integration efforts
- Managing all aspects of the firm wide summer associate program and other recruiting events
- Designing, implementing and promoting professional development, mentoring, coaching and compensation programs to meet the Firm’s objectives and foster retention
- Providing guidance on MCLE approvals for internal and external Firm programs
- Partnering with the Attorney Review Committee to manage the annual Associate and Income Partner review process, and serving as a member of the Associate Compensation Committee
- Collecting market intelligence, conducting research and assessing trends related to attorney recruitment and development to ensure the Firm’s programs are competitive, innovative and effective
- Responding to relevant surveys, including the completion of the Firm’s NALP Directory profile
- Working with practice group leaders to prepare annual recruiting and professional development budgets and monitoring and approving related expenditures
- Collaborating with the Business Development Department on the development of communication and marketing materials for recruiting, including the careers site, social media, electronic communications and other types of communications
- Managing the Attorney Recruiting and Development team, including the Attorney Recruiting and Development Coordinator and the Professional Development Specialist
Qualifications and Experience:
- BA/BS degree required, JD a plus
- 7 years of progressively responsible experience in attorney recruitment and attorney professional development experience necessary
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, build credibility with attorneys, work independently and be proactive and travel as necessary
- Superior organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to prioritize projects and meet deadlines
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong computer skills including proficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook required
- Experience working with viDesktop a plus
