Reporting to the Executive Vice President Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer, the manager - Perioperative Services is responsible for developing and executing the strategic direction and day-to-day management and business operations of and has administrative responsibilities for the operation and maintenance of hospital and ambulatory-based procedural areas of United Medical Center, including the Main Operating Rooms at United Medical Center, the Ambulatory Surgery Center, the Outpatient Surgery Center, and all other sites supporting perioperative services. This responsibility includes planning, organizing, developing, directing, coordinating, implementing marketing, pricing and evaluating the activities of the assigned departments and new programs; assuring that quality patient care is provided in a safe, convenient, timely and efficient manner optimizing C-I-CARE principles and in accordance with the standards and requirements of the Joint Commission and other external regulatory and accrediting bodies; carrying out his/her functions according to the mission, goals and policies of the Hospital

Job Responsibilities:

  • Performs a departmental assessment and establishes department-specific, measurable operational performance goals on an annual basis.
  • Mobilizes department staff to work towards achieving department-specific performance goals.
  • Ensures performance goals are incorporated into employee job descriptions and performance evaluations and holds staff accountable for achieving established performance measures.
  • Evaluates departmental performance on a routine basis and leads staff with making adjustments to ensure success with meeting departmental operational goals.
  • Actively works with the Department of Quality Management and as a member of the hospital-wide Performance Improvement Committee to establish and improve upon departmental quality metrics.
  • Remains current with national and local issues affecting health care administration and their potential impact on the institution.
  • Serves as a well-informed advisor to the Chief Executive Officer, Executive Vice Presidents, and Governing Board as required.
  • Demonstrates the ability to recognize and deal with administrative priorities in a prompt manner.
  • Participates with in the short-term and long-term strategic planning functions of the institution.
  • Continually seeks new technology and developments that will accelerate the attainment of the institution's service, financial, and operational goals and objectives. Actively participates in and chairs hospital committees as assigned.
  • Controls personal time commitments in order to properly balance the time required between outside activities, and institutional activities.
  • Consults with peer group in decision making.
  • Recommends and participates in selecting outside sources for needed services.
  • Recommends space and other resources needed by the departments to meet patient and staff needs.
  • Works with Department of Finance staff to create, implement, and control established budgets.
  • Adjusts department activities (e.g. worked hours, acquisition of supplies) to ensure departmental expenditures are maintained within budget parameters.
  • Routinely reviews Departmental Operational Reports to evaluate monthly departmental performance and make adjustments to minimize or eliminate budget variances.
  • Utilizes information from conducting periodic departmental assessments to forecast budgetary needs for the upcoming fiscal year.
  • Implement effective strategies for controlling employee overtime and other unplanned budgetary expenses.
  • Regularly encourages staff participation and input into communications and decision making.
  • Promptly informs all assigned department managers of hospital policy or procedures changes along with any other issues that might affect their work routines.
  • Consults with Direct Reports and medical leaders on a regular basis to promote positive staff morale and a professional and productive atmosphere within the institution.
  • Ensures current job descriptions and criteria-based performance evaluation standards have been developed for each Direct Report.
  • Assists in revising performance standards as necessary.
  • Regularly measures Direct Reports' performance against established criteria-based performance standards.
  • Utilizes evaluations as an objective management tool for counseling staff members to higher levels of performance to facilitate their professional development and maximize their contribution towards established institutional goals.
  • Assists in developing individual performance objectives which are mutually agreeable with Direct Reports.

Pay: $50.00 - $70.00 per hour
