What are the responsibilities and job description for the Behavioral Health Therapist position at Novant Health?
Overview
Novant Health is seeking an experienced Therapist for mental health and substance use assessments that can adapt to each unique client, as well as display proficient knowledge and experience in implementing and coordinating treatment plans while considering various cultures and age groups. This therapist would be responsible for crisis assessments within the hospital setting and coordination of discharge planning and admissions. Positions also available in surrounding community hospitals.
Responsibilities:
- Implement treatment plan using best practice modalities and interventions to obtain optimal patient outcomes
- Interact and communicate with community agencies, providing liaison and referral services
- Communicate individualized plan of care and patient’s progress toward goals to all members of the care team including the patient and his/her chosen support system/legal guardian
- Develops and maintains positive relationships with team members, leadership, and community providers
- Knowledge of psychiatric medications, psychiatric diagnosis, mental health concepts, and evidence based therapeutic interventions and treatments.
- Ability to establish and maintain control of violent patients, defend self and others against violent assaults, ability to react appropriately during a psychiatric crisis
- Ability to intervene in a therapeutic manner for behavioral patterns demonstrated by patients with a mental illness, personality disorder, abusing substances or developmental disabilities

Qualifications
- Education: Master’s degree required. Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Counseling or related field required.
- Experience: One year of experience required.
- Licensure/certification/registration: LPC, LCSW, Clinical Psychologist PMHCNS (Psych Mental Health Clinical Nurse Spec) or LMFT required. Refer to the Life Support Training Policy NH-HR-3096.
- Additional skills required: Good working knowledge of computers. Ability to care for behavioral health age specific populations. NonViolent Crisis Intervention certification.
