Summary The Systems Engineer is an interdisciplinary role that ensures that the customer's needs are satisfied throughout a system's entire life cycle. The Systems Engineer is responsible for overall product and system design and ensures delivery of a robust technical solution that can meet all aspects of the customer’s requirements. The individual must work cross-functionally with the Customer, Project Manager, R&D, Test, Manufacturing and Operations teams to develop product requirements, identify, and mitigate technical risk, diagnose, and solve problems, and prescribe tests to assess system performance and increase the manufacturability of the solution. The Systems Engineer will guide the technical team in designing all aspects of the system and developing verification and validation tests to demonstrate system compliance to design specifications and customer requirements. Primary Responsibilities As a technical counterpart for the Project Manager, position is responsible for all technical aspects of the system design and ensuring robust design and optimization practices are employed appropriately. Working with the sub-system leaders the Systems Engineer provides the technical direction for Software, Electronics, Mechanical and Test Engineers in activities which are focused on the Customer Requirements, Manufacturability, Reliability and Verification of the system. Creates and maintains the product specific technical documentation Develops a System Verification Plan to determine design limits to ensure the entire system can meet the customer requirements. Designs and facilitates the execution of a Verification and Validation Plans to ensure the final design meets customer functional, performance and regulatory requirements. Support Production Manufacturing to ensure long term conformance of the product during production Engaging in quality control procedures to ensure that systems are efficient and operational. Developing a cost-efficient system for projects by performing a cost-benefit analysis. Strict compliance with the quality, occupational safety, and environmental regulations. Lead continuous process improvement initiatives and drive best practices. Required Experience, Education, Skills and Competencies Bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree in systems engineering 5 years of related experience in regulated industries (medical, avionics, automotive, military, etc.) Additional Skills and Knowledge Creativity to imagine innovative, effective new solutions and designs. Good Logic and reasoning skills for troubleshooting difficult issues. Must be able to develop solutions to problems, as well as manage multiple issues at the same time. Excellent oral and written communication skills Experience with embedded systems, hardware, and software Familiar with Requirements Management systems (Polarion, Jama, Confluence, etc.) is a plus Travel Requirements Occasionally Physical Requirements Lifting up to 50 pounds, Novanta is proud to be an equal employment opportunity and affirmative action workplace.
