What are the responsibilities and job description for the Site Capital Lead position at Novartis?

Responsible for leading the capital projects team at a GMP Radioligand Therapies Production Facility. The individual will lead a team of site-based staff/contractors to assure the delivery of capital projects, manage capital planning and budgeting, and support continuous improvement projects.

  • Supports function business owner with business case development and leads preparation of the funding capital appropriation request (CAR)
  • Drives site-based capital engineering projects including responsibility for Engineering & Facility resources and aligning supporting and customer function resources to ensure the successful delivery of projects.
  • Management of capital projects execution through design, construction, commission and validation through to system and facility turnover.
  • Manages large project portfolios, ensuring appropriate division of work among the Project Managers and overseeing the portfolio project ensuring on scope, delivering on time and within budget.
  • Collaboratively manages the site-based capital budget including the annual operating plan development; project justification; project cash flow (commitment, spend and invoice), on-going maintenance of the budget and all associated reporting.
  • Leads team of staff and contractors providing clear, consistent leadership, management and mentoring.
  • Provides technical expertise to internal and external customers.
  • Prepares site master plans and supports network master planning.
  • Prepares contingency plans and logically work through complex issues.
  • Drives continuous improvement into the engineering execution lifecycle to reduce total overall cost while improving efficiency.
  • Supports other Global Engineering initiatives or programs.
  • Provides technical expertise to internal and external customers.
  • Capable of managing capital project capex and qualification team budgets and supports site cost improvement initiatives.
  • Other related duties as assigned

The pay range for this position at commencement of employment is expected to be between $130,400 and $195,600 per year; however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, and discretionary awards in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits (including 401(k) eligibility and various paid time off benefits, such as vacation, sick time, and parental leave), dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment. If hired, employee will be in an “at-will position” and the Company reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or similar with 13 years of experience in management of facilities, capital projects, engineering or related field or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced degree such as an MBA (with relevant bachelors with 8 years relevant experience preferred.
  • Deep knowledge of facility infrastructure and operations including GMP production area support in biotech/biopharma industry, business management, and construction management.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and collaborate on cross functional teams (e.g. Research & Development, Manufacturing) in a fast paced, dynamic team setting.
  • A “can do” attitude and a willingness to do what it takes to achieve personal and organizational goals and overcome obstacles.
  • Strong knowledge of architectural finishes and components.
  • Planning, problem analysis, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • Working knowledge of principles and practices of project management, business administration, procurement, contracts, financial principles and practices.
  • Knowledgeable of health, safety and environmental regulations, and FDA (and similar) cGMPs.
  • Training in radiochemistry or radio pharmacy is an advantage (preferred)
