Production Supervisor

Position Overview

The Novelis Team in Ashville, OH is seeking an Associate Operations Leader. This role reports to the Operations Leader and will be responsible for collaborating with multiple cross-functional teams to optimize processes and material flow. YOU will partner with the recycling, procurement, logistics and quality teams as well as technical customer service departments to drive supply chain cost improvements and excellence. YOU will be accountable for a deep understanding of the interdependence between Novelis and external metal processors for optimum cost and working capital balancing. YOU will drive high inventory accuracy and strategies to ensure Novelis working capital targets are met while achieving required service levels in particular, for our customers.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities:

• Ensure all employees are properly trained on and follow safety policies and procedures.
• Responsible for maintaining and supporting a safe working environment in the plant.
• Consistently supervising conditions and crew practices throughout the course of the shift to identify and quickly resolve unsafe conditions or at-risk behaviors.
• Participate in and support accident investigations and Behavior-Based Safety observations.
• Coordinate first aid to employees as needed.
• Operational/Administrative.
• Priority-setting and crew-directing activities to facility daily progress toward monthly production targets.
• Scheduling of crews, including overtime (considering equalization), vacations and PTOs, as well as supervising and addressing absenteeism.
• Resolve machine center/line problems which result in downtime and/or product quality deficiencies, including coordinating the use of outside resources as needed.
• Keeping the plants between their min/max inventory levels of each input type requires constant oversight. Failure could result in plants shutting down or unsafe operating conditions.
• Management of operational supplies.
• Provide input and interact frequently with Maintenance personnel as it relates to machine center reliability, repairs and coordination of weekly and scheduled PM schedules.
• Acquire and communicate improvement ideas, whether from crew members, management or self-directed.
• Promote Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) policy, implement the EHS management system and encourage continual improvement of EHS performance in day-to-day operations.
• Maintains active observer status by performing one observation per month on average.
• Special projects and other tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; BS or Technical Degree from an Accredited College preferred.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience as a supervisor.
• Excellent interpersonal relations.
• Good leadership abilities.
• Excellent verbal and listening skills.
• Ability to prepare and make group presentations.
• Work with operators and helpers to reach consensus decisions.
• A good understanding of manufacturing systems and computer (MS Office, Windows, etc.) systems.
• Personal traits should include the ability to utilize human relation skills, empower, train, understand, and develop others to attain the objectives.
• Must be self-motivated and possess excellent reading, writing, listening, and verbal skills.
• Must be flexible and able to operate in a fast-paced environment, with ability to balance multiple tasks and prioritize work.
• Ability to represent Novelis with external parties
• Ability to work evenings, weekdays, and holidays.
• Ability to respond to trouble calls 24-hours a day.
• Management of operational supplies.

Founded in 1971 Ashville is a finishing facility with coating capabilities. Employing around 190 people the facility primarily serves the Building & Construction and Commercial Transportation markets.
