Lead Project Engineer

The Novelis Novi Automotive Customer Solution Center team is seeking a Lead Project Engineer. The individual in this role will work with the Enabling Technologies Leader. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of automotive manufacturing processes of forming, joining and roll forming and management experience with a passion to guide and develop engineering personnel. Being process oriented with strong organizational skills is crucial for success in this role.

This position will be responsible for leading the Project Team and coordinating assets with other Enabling Technologies functions to successfully meet project results. Technical projects will focus on advancement of automotive manufacturing technologies including Novi CSC laboratory assets, 400T servo press, 52 stand roll forming line with laser and high frequency welding, laser welding cell, resistance spot welding and self-piercing rivets.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities:

• Lead a team of 4-5 engineers, providing customer driven technical mentorship to scope projects and maintain deliverable timing
• Establish SMART goals for the team, lead performance and establish individual development plans
• Review project needs, workloads and efficiently prioritize resources
• Directly lead select technical projects in their area of expertise
• Review team technical output and be able to effectively present internally and externally

Minimum Qualifications:

• BS. in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or equivalent
• 10-15 years of validated experience in the auto industry at an OEM or supplier
• Ability to self-manage and flexibility to adapt work to meet organizational needs
• Project management experience
• Fundamental understanding of sheet material processing and automotive production processes including forming, joining and roll forming
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to work well with diverse workgroups and cultures

Preferred Qualifications:

• MS in Mechanical Engineering, Metallurgical Engineering or equivalent
• Strong understanding of sheet aluminum products
• Fundamental understanding of forming limit curves
• CAE experience with LSDYNA
• Proficiency in Autoform R7 with Die Designer and Stamping Advisor modules or equivalent forming CAE software
