Energy Engineer

Position Overview

Novelis Oswego has an exciting opportunity for an Energy Engineer!  This position is responsible for the coordination of the energy management system at Novelis Oswego to achieve objectives related to normalized energy reduction and financial performance. This candidate will show leadership in energy initiatives, sustainability activities and energy savings projects inclusive of all utility systems relating to Novelis’s overall goals for energy reduction. This role serves to provide information and data to support energy purchase agreements and energy reduction initiatives.

The Energy Engineer position is technical in nature, requiring first-hand knowledge of energy distribution such as gas, electric, and water. 

The position shall report functionally to the Central Services Associate Leader for Utilities.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Routinely monitor and track monthly energy performance metrics and data.
• Identification and prioritization of energy saving projects. Engagement of resources to complete Capital improvement projects for the reduction of energy consumption.
• Assist the Procurement Manager for Strategic Sourcing of Energy with purchase and management of energy contracts. Completion of financial reporting requirements and annual budgeting.
• Direct coordination of energy consumption and reduction for all of the manufacturing units at the Oswego facility.
• Interface with corporate energy leaders and plant leadership to provide communication and support for energy initiatives.
• Directly manage and/or provide technical support for identified energy reduction projects

Preferred Qualifications

• 4-year bachelor’s degree in energy engineering, electrical engineering, or mechanical engineering
• 5 years of related experience in manufacturing environment
• Knowledge of energy monitoring, metering, management, and distribution systems
• Experience with power distribution and combustion systems
• Strong computer skills including the Microsoft Office suite
• Strong interpersonal / communication and leadership skills and ability to collaborate with and gain commitment from all levels of the organization

This role’s salary starts from $70,000 per year. The role can be filled at different levels depending on relevant experience of the candidate. Individual pay will vary based on qualifications, experience, and performance. In addition to base salary, this position includes participation in a short-term incentive plan (Annual Incentive Plan - AIP or Plant Performance incentive - PPI).

Novelis’ Oswego facility is located on Lake Ontario in north-central New York and employs approximately 1100 people.
