Overview
The Remelt Operator will ensure a safe and environmentally sound operation, and achievement of targets related to quality and productivity.
Incumbents employ Novelis’ Cultural Beliefs and Focused 5 metrics. The Remelt Operator will report directly to the Associate Business Unit Leader Remelt
- Ensure analysis and quality specifications are accurate by sampling, alloying and skimming as required.
- Transfer molten metal to Holders per production targets.
- Manage weighbelt speeds to optimize throughput.
- Manage dross to reduce waste and to meet shipping requirements.
- Perform equipment inspections to ensure proper condition.
- Perform routine trough and impeller maintenance as required.
- Operate a variety of mobile equipment such as skid steer and forklift.
- Provides support as required to the operation by performing other duties as requested, directed, or assigned.
- Maintain a safe working environment by complying with Novelis’ standards and policies, all state and federal regulations, and company policies and procedures.
- Ensure compliance to environmental requirements.
- Ensure all work areas are PSEA ready
- Troubleshoot problems as they arise using lean systems (A3 thinking, continuous improvement, root cause analysis).
- Notify appropriate personnel of irregularities in operating equipment or materials; maintain clean and orderly conditions in work area.
- Maintain accurate, legible and timely records by completing data entry on computer.
- Work with team(s) to coordinate activities on a daily basis to make sure plant meet EHSQ and production targets.
Keep up to date with work instructions.
Responsibilities & Qualifications
- Able to interact with visitors, customers, suppliers, other technical experts; requires professionalism and etiquette.
- Able to engage others and foster collaboration
- Possess forklift experience
- Perform lifting up to 50 lbs.
- Be able to work at temperatures
100 degrees in the summer.
- Be able to work rotating shifts, including nights and weekends, overtime and holidays as scheduled / required
- Superior people skills
- Excellent communication (oral and written) skills; ability to communicate with all levels in the organization
- Personal traits should include the ability to utilize human relation skills to motivate, train, understand, and develop others to attain the objectives
- Desire to take initiative and develop a pro-active relationship with employees through follow-up
- Ability to organize and prioritize workload; must be able to manage multiple tasks at once without sacrificing attention to detail
- Must be flexible and able to operate in a fast-paced environment
- Solid computer skills with software applications proficiency, including Microsoft Office and SAP.
- Ability to learn new software programs quickly.
