The Position
The Early Product Asset Owner plays a pivotal role in driving the successful commercialization of early-stage pharmaceutical products. This role focuses on creating alignment across functions, collaborating closely with the clinical team, defining key performance indicators (KPIs), shaping lifecycle strategies, and establishing early commercialization strategies to maximize product potential. This role facilitates pull through and continuity of knowledge from clinical development and early strategy phases to commercialization efforts to brand teams at the time the launch planning process starts (three years prior to launch). It is essential to maximize asset value, drive early brand and GTM strategies. This role serves as the commercial point of contact for global commercial asset team prior to the start of the launch planning process.

Relationships
Reports to the Pipeline and Early Development Lead. Collaborates with cross-functional teams, including marketing, medical, R&D, regulatory affairs, finance, Market Access (MAPA) and other relevant NNI departments to develop early commercial strategies strategy. Provides input for ‘One Impact’ Planning process and provide regular updates to the therapy areas. Drives the successful pull-through of clinical insights, patient profiles, and strategic considerations into commercialization efforts as we start the launch process. This role may also serve as a liaison with global teams. This role will have Product Asset specialists and/or managers reporting to them.

Essential Functions
  • Early ‘One Impact’ Planning: Foster early strategic alignment across cross-functional teams including marketing, market access, and medical teams and to ensure a cohesive approach to early product commercialization. Collaborate with global commercial teams as the primary point of contact and ensure input to the ‘One Impact Process’ across other key NNI stakeholders
  • Early Commercialization Strategy: Develop early commercialization strategies to drive product adoption and market penetration, leveraging global materials, insights from clinical trials, and market research. Collaborate with marketing, market access, and medical affairs teams to develop early brand positioning, priority customer segments, messaging, and go-to-market strategies before the product is transitioned to the launch team
  • Market Assessment and Opportunity Analysis: Conduct thorough market assessments and opportunity analyses to identify target patient populations, unmet needs, and competitive positioning strategies
  • Target Product Profile (TPP) Development: Provide strategic input and support for clinical trial strategy, regulatory development, and the development of Target Product Profiles (TPPs) to ensure alignment with commercialization goals. Collaborate with clinical and regulatory teams to understand clinical data / patient outcomes, identify market opportunities, address regulatory requirements, and shape product development strategies
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure early commercialization strategies comply with regulatory guidelines and industry standards, working closely with regulatory affairs teams to address any compliance-related issues
  • Commercialization Transition: Facilitate a smooth transition of products from clinical development into commercialization at the time the launch planning process begins. Ensure continuity of market research and therapy area knowledge, decision processes, and early strategy from early development phases to commercialization efforts, maintaining alignment with overarching brand strategies
  • Knowledge Transfer and Pull-Through: Facilitate knowledge transfer between clinical development teams and marketing brand/therapy area teams, ensuring key insights, learnings, and strategic considerations are effectively communicated and incorporated into commercialization plans. Work closely with cross-functional teams to pull through clinical insights, patient profiles, and early competitive positioning strategies into launch commercialization efforts to maximize product potential
  • Project Management and Coordination: Lead project management efforts to coordinate transition between clinical development and commercialization teams, ensuring milestones are met. Identify and mitigate potential risks or challenges during the transition process, proactively addressing issues to minimize disruptions and ensure continuity of product development efforts
  • Continuous Improvement and Optimization: Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize the product transition process, implementing best practices, tools, and methodologies to streamline workflows and enhance efficiency
  • People Development and Coaching: Responsible for setting and communicating clear individualized role expectations for each report based on position, skills, talents, and objectives. Ensure that reporting personnel have strengths-based individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business. Provide regular coaching of reports that prioritizes appropriate challenging, development, feedback, regular recognition, and support

Physical Requirements
Approximately 20-30% overnight travel.

Development of People
Supervisory
Ensure that reporting personnel have individual development plans (IDP), with annual goals and measurements that are consistent with the priorities of the business, and that interim reviews are held so that their work is focused on those priorities, and they understand their level of accountability for results and the measurement process.

Ensure that the IDP forms include completed learning and aspiration plans and are in place for all reporting personnel to enable the achievement of goals and capability to assume increased levels of responsibility.

Manage the application and communication of all Novo Nordisk policies, procedures, and Novo Nordisk Way.

Qualifications
  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred
  • 12 years of experience, including early commercialization, product management, or related roles within the pharmaceutical industry
  • Demonstrated success in early commercial planning/strategies, launching, and managing products
  • Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical clinical development processes, regulatory requirements and experience interacting with regulatory agencies
  • Strong knowledge of the pharmaceutical industry, including competitive market dynamics, and trends, especially within preferred
  • Strategic mindset with ability to develop and execute innovative commercial strategies aligned with NNI objectives and market opportunities
  • Strategic Planning, Execution and follow-through skills required
  • Proficiency in financial analysis, budget management, and resource allocation for early product strategy decisions
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with ability to influence senior leaders and collaborate with cross-functional teams across the organization
  • Project management skills, with the ability to lead and coordinate complex initiatives involving multiple stakeholders
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others
  • Embodies leadership behaviors, including authenticity, servant leadership, will, empathy, decisiveness, and driving focus and simplicity
  • People management experience required, with a proven track record of development and coaching
