What are the responsibilities and job description for the Development Director position at NPOWERNY INC?
We are seeking an experienced Development Director to build NPower’s visibility, impact, and financial resources in our New Jersey region. In particular, s/he will be responsible for stewarding existing relationships and identifying, initiating introductions, and building new relationships with top prospective foundations, government, corporations, and individual donors.
An ideal candidate would have proven experience and success in securing major contributions from a variety of sources, and extensive knowledge of, and connections in New Jersey north and south philanthropic community. S/he should possess strong communication, organizational, and writing skills, with the ability to work independently. This is an excellent opportunity to regularly work on six and seven-figure grant opportunities within an organization that is undergoing continued growth.
Work will be hybrid – remote with Zoom calls for connecting and in-person meetings with staff and existing/prospective donors on a case-by-case basis. NPower NJ operates out of Newark, NJ with classrooms/office on Washington Street. The Development Director will manage his/her time between working remotely and from NPower office.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop a fundraising plan to support NPower NJ based programs, incorporating multiple fundraising strategies and donor types (individuals, corporations, foundations, government, etc.)
- Work with NPower development and senior leadership to initiate and build relationships with foundations, governments, corporations, and individual donors, and secure funding.
- Manage relationships and stewardship of major donors and elected officials.
- Identify local, state and government grant opportunities in alignment with NPower’s mission.
- Develop regional schedule of activities and pipeline of proposal submissions, including forecast of anticipated revenue.
- Coordinate with the NPower development staff to assemble the required grant requests.
- Update and review with NPower development staff on a regular basis.
- Write proposal submissions/grant reporting as needed and work with regional grant writer.
- Update grant narratives to reflect the community needs, program description, and targeted outcomes.
- Work closely with program staff to gather data for proposals and reporting.
- Maintain relationship, proposal/report documents in Salesforce CRM platform and track all reporting deadlines.
- Partnership with the Metro Executive Director and NJ Program Director to promote NPower in the area.
- Develop and manage regional fundraising, community and partnership events.
- Represent NPower in NJ community and other activities.
- Participation in quarterly NJ Regional Advisory Board meetings.
- Provide support to CEO and Chief Development Officer as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS
- At least 7 years of professional experience in the nonprofit development field
- A proven record of securing major contributions from government, foundation, corporation, and individual sources
- Extensive knowledge of and connections in the NJ philanthropic community
- Experience with or demonstrated knowledge of the workforce development community and funders is preferred
- Experience developing and/or managing a board of senior leaders. Proven experience of having expanded and cultivated existing donor relationships over time
- Knowledge of and experience with government grant proposals and reporting is a plus
- Demonstrated ability to build relationships with the senior leaders in public sector, major corporations, foundations and high net worth individuals
- Self-starter and ability to work autonomously without supervision
- Strong organization and communication skills with excellent attention to detail and follow through
- Ability to work as a team player in a remote work environment
- Positive, can do attitude and sense of urgency
- Bachelor's degree required
- CFRE preferred
