Job Summary:
The successful candidate will be responsible for a variety of portfolio management and trading initiatives for the East Power Desk. Specifically, the position will be responsible for assisting in the management of retail portfolios; the pricing, analysis, and trading of power positions; assisting sales and pricing teams with modeling and market information, and pricing and modelling of structured deals with Origination. The East Power Team is looking for a highly motivated individual to join the team and support commercial operations in the PJM and MISO.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
- Assist with the management of short-term and long-term physical and financial wholesale power positions as well as related tasks (marking curves, scalars...etc)
- Deploy risk to generate P&L while adhering to internal risk limits
- Assist with NRG asset and HRCO hedging strategies
- Develop comprehensive models to analyze commodity markets, price new business opportunities and advise customers
- Identify opportunities for new business with wholesale counterparties including private equity, utilities, as well as other wholesale energy companies
- Assist Regulatory and Compliance Teams as required to ensure a prompt and comprehensive response to regulatory developments as well as timely compliance to existing regulations
- Provide research as needed to identify possible strategic business opportunities
- Support NRG's retail customer business as required
Minimum Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree, preferably in mathematics, engineering, or other quantitative field from an accredited college or university
- Minimum of 5 years experience in power trading or retail energy markets in eastern US
- Strong spreadsheet, programming, and presentation skills
- Strong analytical skills with strong IT and/or data management skills
- Statistical proficiency
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficient coder of SQL, and an object-oriented programming language (Ruby, Python, VBA)
- Previous experience in scheduling and NERC e-tagging physical power transactions

- Flexibility and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines
- Effective verbal and written communication skills

- Must be a creative thinker with strong investigative and analytical skills
Working Conditions:
- Location: Princeton office
- Evening and weekend work, while not the norm, may be required as business needs dictate
