NRG Corporate Strategy is responsible for defining and developing successful strategies to enhance the business, drive the corporate vision, and meet other high-priority corporate objectives. The team serves as a centralized source of analysis and insight that looks across the entirety of the business to determine appropriate pathways to value. The team also engages in early-stage and emerging opportunity identification, investment and testing to promote sustained value creation and competitive advantage.


The Manager, Corporate Strategy will assume a high-visibility role that works alongside NRG’s Innovation and other key corporate and business unit teams to define the next several years for NRG. The broader Corporate Strategy and Innovation team also houses market research, competitive intelligence, and internal incubation functions.


In this role, you will:


  • Lead the development of a wide range of opportunity assessments that support NRG’s mission and vision; provide a comprehensive view of an opportunity, including assessments of market dynamics, growth trajectory, business models and potential EBITDA creation
  • Collaborate across the organization to gain a deep understanding of business capabilities, value drivers, and objectives in providing a foundation for strategic opportunity evaluation
  • Play a key role in NRG’s strategic planning process, helping to guide annual discussions around pathways to targets and prioritization of spend
  • Create presentations that can be easily communicated to senior leadership; present recommendations on the best course of action with a defined set of evaluation criteria
  • Partner with leaders and other stakeholders across the organization to help coordinate and sequence priorities and provide strategic consult as needed on business-level strategy initiatives
  • Identify and pitch potential emerging technology partnerships and/or investments that align with NRG investment parameters and growth objectives
  • Build external network and represent NRG at key sector events; maintain and cultivate relationships across the industry to drive continual insights and perspectives that can be turned into analysis
  • Work alongside the NRG M&A team to support deal formation and execution on an as needed basis and collaborate with Enterprise Innovation to direct further areas of testing and evaluation
  • Assist in compilation and review of presentations to the NRG Board of Directors and other ad hoc initiatives


Working Conditions:


  • Located in Princeton, NJ office
  • Hybrid workforce segmentation
  • Some overtime required as special projects arise
  • Some travel may be required


Minimum Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • At least 5 years of experience in a corporate or business strategy function; some consideration for similar, relevant corporate functions
  • Experience in managing complex, multidisciplinary strategic projects
  • Experience in energy, consumer service or technology sectors
  • Excellent communication skills
  • PowerPoint mastery and advanced skill in Excel


Preferred Qualifications:


  • MBA degree from top tier program
  • Management consulting experience
  • Financial modeling/M&A experience
  • Experience in corporate venture capital, venture capital or private equity
  • Experience with consumer services businesses

  • Experience leading teams and working across a large, complex organization in a way that fosters collaboration
  • Experience in outlining, scoping, and executing projects that meet specific corporate objectives
  • High degree of critical and comprehensive thinking
  • Proactive self-starter with ability to navigate ambiguity
  • Skilled in corporate communication and writing
  • Ability to create financial models to support business case scenarios
  • Ability to design and create high-impact presentations for and communicate effectively with senior leadership
  • Passionate about problem solving and balancing analytics with creative solutions to achieve an objective
