STAFF ACCOUNTANT

Our client has an immediate opening for a Staff Accountant to join their growing team. The position will be based from our client's HQ in Hoffman Estates, IL.
Position Overview:
The staff accountant will report directly to the Accounting Manager and will need to demonstrate the ability to work proactively and independently. Provide timely and accurate preparation, calculation, and reconciliation of various business and departmental processes for our accounting and finance department. The role will perform technical and accounting activities required in order to ensure effective reporting for management and accounting purposes. This person will be assisting in day-to-day accounting processes as well as the month-end financial close, interim audits, and ad hoc projects. This position must have strong attention to detail, sound judgment and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities:
- Follow company procedures whether written or oral
- Backup for various positions in the Accounting Department
- Develop written procedures for the department
- Sales tax filings, research and registrations
- Prepare monthly journal entries as required
- Manage fixed assists accounting and processes in Great Plains
- Assist in month-end closing processes
- Prepare various general ledger account reconciliations as needed
- Assist in Financial Statements preparation
- Assist in the application of J-Sox internal control rules in the day-to-day operations
- Assist in Cash Applications and processing Accounts Payable
- Assist in processing credit memos to customers
- Support and partake in Great Plains system upgrade
- Provide support to purchasing and other functions within the company as appropriate
- Assist in creating or maintaining ad-hoc reports and analysis as assigned by management
- Assist with projects designed to improve accounting efficiency or drive quality results
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business.
- Understanding of accounting rules and procedures including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
- Must possess a basic understanding of sales tax rules by state and accounting for sales tax
- 2-3 years of working in a corporate environment in the accounting department
- Must be a self-starter and be able to multi-task
- Possess excellent time management and organizational skills to complete the tasks within the specified deadline and with the highest degree of accuracy
- Strong PC skills with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
- Possess top level communication skills, on phone, in written and verbal forms and customer service
- Must be a good communicator to relate appropriately with all members of other departments as well as customers and vendors.
- Previous experience with Great Plains and Sales Force are preferred
- Ability to analyze and solve problems
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality, discretion and integrity
