Contingent Inpatient Gastroenterology - Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant - (JACKSON, MI)

Position Summary:

This is an Advanced Practice Professional (APP) job opening.  Both qualified/experienced NP and PA applicants will be considered, as well as new graduates.  GI experience is preferred, but not required.  Prefer providers able to see patients of all ages (adolescents as well as adults).

Advanced Practice Professional will provide health care and specialized health services to patients and families enrolled in Gastroenterology Medicine.  The APP will coordinate care of this patient population in collaboration with all members of the health care team.  This position will be 100% inpatient.

-          Independently evaluates patients in the clinic and in the hospital

-          Ordering/interpreting testing and lab results, modifying plan of care to address results

-          Provide clinical expertise and direction to support patient medication management

-          Maintain accurate documentation regarding patient status, evaluations, and treatments to physicians, streamline the patient transfer process between levels of care, including communicating specific patient needs to internal and external team members and other ambulatory care providers

-          Perform other related duties as required to assure patient safety and satisfaction

-          Participate in the development and presentation of educational experiences for patients, families, and health care professionals

Schedule – Variable inpatient rounding and on-call coverage based on need; weekends required

Skills – GI experience preferred, not required

Case Load – 95% adult / 5% pediatrics

Duties & Responsibilities:

1.       In collaboration with physician(s), APP will provide independent acute and/or routine medical care to a patients and families enrolled in Gastroenterology Medicine.

2.       Writes appropriate orders, if/when applicable

3.       Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods

4.       Coordinates the activities of patient care and support staff within the clinic

5.       Writes progress notes in EMR indicating patient status and treatment procedures performed

6.       Provides health education to patients, families, and/or community health practitioners and groups

7.       Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshop

8.       May perform clinical research related to specific operations

9.       Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

1.       Knowledge of clinical operations and procedures

2.       Knowledge of drugs and their indications, contraindications, dosing, side effects, and proper administration

Working Conditions:

Moderate physical activity.  Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds or standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day.

Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Specialty/Invasive Nurse Practitioner (NP) will work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. The Specialty/Invasive NP will be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, education, consultation, and care coordination as a first line provider to patients and their families. Provides inpatient and/or outpatient medical care. Works in collaboration with attending physicians, advanced practice providers, consultants, house officers, nurses, and other members of the medical care team to ensure that patient outcomes are achieved safely and efficiently. Specific procedures as per credentialing as indicated by training and experience. Works in one of the following departments: Cardiovascular Medicine, Emergency Medicine, ICU, Interventional Radiology, Nephrology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Oncology, Orthopedics, Otolaryngology, Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine, Surgery, Urgent Care, Urology. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Master's degree in nursing. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED: Current certification as a Certified Nurse Practitioner. Current State license as a Registered Nurse. Current BLS. Current ACLS/ATLS/PALS provider status as required by department.
