Responsibilities and Duties
- Outgoing and independent - will be patient-facing and at times running solo.
- Performs responsibilities in a manner that promotes quality patient care and customer service/satisfaction
- Interview patients to obtain medical information and measure their vital signs, weight, and height.
- Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the medical team.
- Record patients' medical history, vital statistics, or information such as test results in medical records.
- Prepare and administer medications as directed by a physician.
- Removes sutures and staples and change sterile and non-sterile dressings, as requested.
- Collect blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens, log the specimens, and prepare them for testing.
- Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets, or physicians' instructions to patients.
- Help physicians examine and treat patients, handing them instruments or materials or performing such tasks as giving injections or removing sutures.
- Authorize drug refills and provide prescription information to pharmacies.
- Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations, keeping the rooms neat and clean.
- Clean and sterilize instruments and dispose of contaminated supplies.
- Schedule appointments for patients.
- Change dressings on wounds.
- Greet and log in patients arriving at the facility.
- Contact medical facilities or departments to schedule patients for tests or admission.
- Perform general office duties, such as answering telephones, taking dictation, or completing insurance forms.
- Inventory and order medical, lab, or office supplies or equipment.
- Perform routine laboratory tests and sample analyses.
- Set up medical laboratory equipment.
- Keep financial records or perform other bookkeeping duties, such as handling credit or collections or mailing monthly statements to patients.
- Operate equipment to administer routine diagnostic tests
Qualifications/Skills/Educational Requirements:
- Certified Medical Assistant in the state of Texas
- Must maintain certifications and standard vaccination requirements, BLS required certified by Red Cross or American Heart.
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Previous experience working in the healthcare field in either ER or hospital, high acuity clinic.
- Strong technical skill set to run multiple types of equipment and charting platforms.
- Outgoing and independent- able to independently work with patients with potential remote supervision. Excellent bedside way and ability to make patients be at ease. Appears friendly, reassuring and approachable to patients.
- Familiarity with HIPPA regulations.
- High attention to detail.
- Able to handle the stress of working in a fast-paced, busy environment.
- Ability to make choices, decisions and act in the patient’s best interest
- Ability to react and remain calm in difficult situations
- Ability to handle multiple priorities
- Possess written and verbal skills for effective communication and level of understanding
- Demonstrates good judgment, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
- Minimum of 18 months experience working with variety of patients in a hospital or ER setting, high acuity clinic.
- Decision-making abilities and acting in the patient’s best interest, ability to react and remain calm in difficult situations, and possess written and verbal skills for effective communication and level of understanding.
- Physical Requirements:
- Exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds frequently and/or up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects.
