What are the responsibilities and job description for the Endoscopy Technician position at Nuvance Health?
Nuvance Health has a network of convenient hospital and outpatient locations — Danbury Hospital, New Milford Hospital, Norwalk Hospital and Sharon Hospital in Connecticut, and Northern Dutchess Hospital, Putnam Hospital Center and Vassar Brothers Medical Center in New York — plus multiple primary and specialty care physician practices locations, including The Heart Center, a leading provider of cardiology care, and two urgent care offices. Non-acute care is offered through various affiliates, including the Thompson House for rehabilitation and skilled nursing services, and the Home Care organizations.
Purpose: The Endoscopy Technician assists with the nursing care activities and endoscopic services provided to a specific group of adult or geriatric patients consistent with the philosophy, goals, policies and procedures of the Nursing Department and Hospital Administration. Population served based on scope of services in the department.
Essential Responsibilities
1. Collects and utilizes available data necessary for the proper preparation of the endoscopy suite for specific GI endoscopic procedures.
2. Utilizes the GI schedule, MD’s preference cards and basic knowledge of procedures in all preparation of endoscopy supplies, instruments and equipment for intended procedure.
3. Communicates effectively all related problems actual or potential to the RN or other health care professional.
4. Assists in the delivery of patient care as a nursing team member by performing in a prompt and appropriate manner, specific patient care tasks as directed and described in the department’s policies and procedures. Promotes and assists in maintaining continuity of patient care through communication with health care team members to share information and solve problems in a positive result-oriented manner, maintaining patient right to privacy always.
5. Lends knowledge and/or assistance to other nursing units or departments when requested, with a positive and cooperative attitude; remaining flexible and responsive when unexpected changes occur in staffing or workload.
6. Utilizes material and equipment in a safe, therapeutic, and cost-effective manner. Ensures all equipment is in working order and participates in any training or equipment trails when requested.
7. Demonstrates a knowledge and understanding of sterile/aseptic techniques when utilizing all supplies.
8. Promotes a clean, safe and efficient working environment by adhering to hospital and department policies and adhering to all safety regulations and reporting any variances.
9. Cleans and maintains all equipment and supplies according to department procedures. Adhering to Infection Control and Quality Assurance Policies and Procedures. Reporting all incidents, irregularities, unsafe conditions, and/or unusual occurrences to supervisor.
10. Demonstrates regard for the dignity and respect of all patients, family members, visitors and hospital personnel as defined in the philosophy of Northern Dutchess Hospital.

- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of one (1) year previous patient care experience.
- PREFER: Minimum of one (1) year procedural experience.

- Basic computer skills.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certified.
