NV5 is seeking an Electrical (MEP) Engineering intern to work in our Andover, MA office. Positions are available for Electrical academic track individuals interested in exposure to the building design and construction industry.
During the course of the internship program, interns will collaborate with NV5 engineers in a multi-discipline team environment for design of building mechanical, electrical, and piping systems. Based on candidate interests, the intern will gain experience with building systems including but not limited to power distribution, life safety systems, lighting, air distribution, heating water, chilled water, and steam systems for office buildings, academic facilities, laboratories, and industrial projects in and around the area. Interns will assist engineers and designers in the development and production of engineering plans and specifications on a variety of projects. The systems designed at NV5 include Electrical, HVAC, and Fire Protection and Plumbing systems for a wide variety of building types.
Responsibilities
- Lay out engineering drawings using AutoCAD and Revit and draft the design under the supervision of an engineer, senior engineer, drafter or project manager.
- Take engineer’s rough plan mark-ups and modify or finalize design documents under the supervision of a drafter, engineer, senior engineer or project manager and draft the design.
- Actively engage with project engineers and designers to develop and create design and construction drawings using Revit 3D Building Information Modeling (BIM) software.
- Participate in field surveys to investigate and document existing conditions of buildings.
- Assist with engineering calculations as directed by engineering staff.
- Produce drawings using AutoCAD and Revit from marked-up not-to-scale drawings provided by engineers or drafters in the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection disciplines, under the direction of a designer, engineer, or senior engineer.
- Other duties may include attending client meetings with project managers and engineers, writing reports, generating system diagrams and details. General office duties may be required from time to time to assist in the smooth operation of the firm.
Qualifications
- Must be working towards a BS Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Formal training in AutoCAD and Revit is preferred.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills along with familiarity with Microsoft Products such as Excel and Outlook.
- On-the-job experience or previous internship in the consulting engineering field is preferred.
- Can-do attitude and willingness to learn is required.
