Overview
NV5 is seeking a Senior Analyst to support the Land Cover group in producing various land use and land cover datasets. In this role, the Senior Analyst will work under the direction of senior staff to design and implement machine learning algorithms and comprehensive workflows for deriving land cover and land use features from a variety of remotely sensed data sources. The position requires critical thinking, effective communication, and the ability to accomplish objectives with minimal oversight. The Senior Analyst should be comfortable working both individually and collaboratively as part of a team. Experience with remotely sensed imagery and geospatial data is required. The Senior Analyst will also be expected to help identify and develop process improvements and efficiencies.
Work Environment:
- Location: Remote Charleston, SC
- This position requires working in an office setting (home office or NV5 office) in front of a computer; there is no fieldwork component to this job.
- Travel: <15% of the time

Responsibilities

- Support the development of models and workflows for land cover data production
- Apply knowledge of machine learning, statistics and software engineering to develop robust solutions
- Process and analyze data from various remote sensing sources such as multispectral imagery and lidar
- Prepare documentation of observations, analyses and interpretations of results including summaries, protocols and quantitative analyses
- Provide accurate time estimates for project related tasks
- Coordination with other staff to ensure tasks are completed within estimated timeframe
- Identifies issues and/or efficiencies, brings these to the attention of appropriate team members, and as appropriate, helps develop and implement solutions
- Multitasks across several projects; if work balance becomes misaligned, brings this to the attention of appropriate managers for resolution
- Assists in procedural development of workflows and generating spatial model outputs
- Rigorous validation of models and quality control
- Coordinates and collaborates regularly with the technical leaders, project managers and project team members on progress

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent experience
- 4 years of experience in a professional work environment
- Coursework in Statistics, Data Science and/or Machine Learning
- Experience manipulating and analyzing remotely sensed data with Python (or R)
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite
- Ability to read maps, understand coordinate systems, perform raster and vector calculations and make conversions between formats
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree, or equivalent experience
- Proven experience in developing and implementing machine learning algorithms. This includes techniques such as regression, classification, clustering, and deep learning
- Experience with PyTorch, Sckit Learn, SciKit Image and Pandas
- Experience with Open-Source geospatial libraries such as GDAL, RasterIO and GeoPandas
- Experience with the development of Land Use Land Cover datasets
- Experience in other programming languages such as R, C , etc.
- Experience communicating with clients or other external stakeholders
