This position is for a Land Survey Manager or Professional Land Surveyor that supervises multiple teams of technical staff, provides professional review of work products. helps manage office and field workload under the direction of the Director of Survey Operations, and supports the Survey Department by maintaining projects on schedule and budget.


The person in this position provides all types of survey research, computations, review of computer-aided survey drafting of topographic maps and plats, written descriptions of land for deeds, leases, and other legal documents in accordance with local, state, federal and project requirements. Reviews projects, performs quality assurance, reports progress through completion on each project assigned by the Director of Survey. Assists in scheduling field crews and oversight of field procedures and survey vehicles and equipment.


The Survey Manager performs business development and prepares proposals and client presentations.


Responsible for survey calculations, analysis and final map checking, abstracting title data, record drawings research, and client relations. Sign and seal survey documents. Monitors projects from initiation through delivery, interfacing with clients on technical matters. Works directly with project team members, to include other registered surveyors, engineers, and technical staff. Writes descriptions of property boundary surveys for use in deeds, leases, or other legal documents. Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned, such as:
• Provide professional & technical oversight and guidance
• Perform project research, logistics and management
• Champion NV5 company policies, safety plan and the project safety plan.
• Perform quality control checks on each project, including computations, field book formats and content.
• Supervise project field crew(s) and/or serve as field PLS Chief of Survey Parties
• Work on control, boundary, subdivision, heavy civil, topographic & design surveys, aerial mapping control and aeronautical surveys. may also perform hydrographic surveying.
• Accurately run and adjust survey measuring instruments including digital levels, GPS equipment, and total stations with electronic data collecting capabilities.
• Understand and identify basic sources of measurement errors.
• Perform mathematical calculations and check field data


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Geomatics, Land Surveying, or related field preferred.
  • Licensed by the State of California in Land Surveying. Minimum of 10 years of experience preferred, including project management.
  • Must possess good interpersonal skills, and effective written and oral communication skills
    Requires advanced knowledge of local survey laws, surveying principles, techniques and procedures, occupational hazards, and safety precautions.
  • Must possess intermediate to advanced skills in survey processing software. Should be proficient in survey software such as AutoCAD Civil 3D and Trimble Business Center.
  • Advance knowledge of field instrumentation, GPS, and robotic total stations.

The pay range for this California position is $130,000.00- $160,000.00 per year. however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
