What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian 2 position at NVU?
- Clean floors: vacuum, sweep, dust mop, wash, strip, wax, buff.
- Wash windows, walls, chalkboards, trash cans.
- Dust furniture, fixtures, woodwork.
- Empty trash receptacles and pick up litter in and around buildings.
- Clean and stock bathrooms, change and clean shower curtains.
- Replace lightbulbs.
- Move furniture.
- Do routine maintenance of electrical, heating and ventilating vents and fixtures.
- Serve as a team leader for a small crew of custodial/housekeeping staff: train new employees; issue daily work assignments; monitor work in progress and check completed work; assist staff with problems or unusual situations; handle minor personnel problems; report significant personnel problems to Custodial/Housekeeping Supervisor.
- Coordinate and carry out a specialized custodial/maintenance function, such as refinishing floors and shampooing carpets, performing special swimming pool maintenance tasks including vacuuming, chemical regulation and backwashing and the like.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Direct supervision is received from the Custodial/Housekeeping Supervisor.
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Partial functional and administrative supervision of several Custodian/ Housekeepers.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High school education desirable. One to two years of relevant commercial/institutional custodial experience.
Physical ability to do heavy custodial work.
Good basic supervisory skills.
