The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City’s evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees, visitors, volunteers and people in our custody. Importantly, safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 9,500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.
The New York City Department of Correction seeks to recruit a part time Assistant Budget Analyst to provide support in the Budget Division. Under the direction of the Director of the Expense Budget Division, with latitude for independent judgment and decision-making. The primary functions of the selected candidate include billing and collecting of revenue reimbursements from Federal and State governments; producing reports in detail from expenditures and revenues posted in FMS as well as generating reports that summarizes the agency's financial activities across all its funds. Tasks include but are not limited to ensure proper record keeping for financial auditing purposes; Prepare and submit monthly financial reimbursement requests to Federal and State agencies accurately and on a timely basis in compliance with applicable regulations; Prepare and process general journal entries for grant/revenue billings and reimbursements; Work with OMB, the Comptroller, DOC Auditing Unit and outside City Auditors as required during annual exercises. The incumbent will perform special projects and related duties as assigned.
This Unit is responsible for the financial verification and preparation of purchase documents prior to their submission to our Central Office of Procurement for final processing. The selected candidate will prepare Vendor files for these purchase orders and record them into an internal database. As we continue to transition into the City's new procurement database PASSPort, the incumbent will be tasked with recording purchase orders into the system and verifying fund availability via the Financial Management System (FMS) and our internal FINMAN database. Other tasks will include but not be limited to interacting with staff from our Central Office of Procurement, Payments Division and other commands as necessary. In additional; responsible for basic office duties; faxing, scanning etc. and create and maintain EXCEL worksheets as needed.

Minimum Qual Requirements
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.

Residency Requirement
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
