What are the responsibilities and job description for the Case Management Nurse position at NYC Careers?

The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations, and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.

The Medical Division is responsible for overseeing the health and well-being of all members of the service.

Case Management Nurses consult with private physicians of members of the service and conduct in-depth interviews with members in order to evaluate treatment plans. They conduct follows-up with hospitals where members have been admitted for emergency care, surgery, etc. in order to monitor the quality of care and insure the member's return to duty as soon as medically Indicated.
In addition, they screen and treat members under criteria established by the Chief Surgeon, Including electrocardiograms, audiometric studies, vision screening, venipuncture. Case Management Nurses participate in case-management planning sessions with other members of the medical staff-, institute and maintain long-term record keeping, in order to standardize evaluation and treatment plans for conditions particular to the Police Department. They act as health care educational resource people for department members and their families and provide counseling to encourage health care practices that promote physical and emotional well-being to reduce absenteeism.

Minimum Qual Requirements

1. A valid New York State license as a Registered Nurse, plus a baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited college, and three years of clinical nursing experience; or

2. A valid New York State license as a Registered Nurse, plus an associate degree in nursing from an accredited college, and five years of clinical nursing experience; or

3. Education and/or experience equivalent to '1' or ‘2’ above. However, all candidates must have a valid New York State license as a Registered Nurse.

Note:
To be assigned to Assignment Level II, candidates must have, in addition to meeting the minimum qualification requirements listed above, at least one additional year of clinical nursing experience.

Preferred Skills

Candidates must have (1) a baccalaureate degree in nursing from an accredited college, three years of clinical nursing experience, and a valid New York State license as a Registered Nurse; or (2) 8 valid New York State license as a Registered Nurse, plus an associate degree in nursing from an accredited college, and five years of clinical nursing experience; or (3) education and/or experience equivalent to '1' or '2', however all candidates must have a yak' New York State license as a Registered Nurse.

It should be noted that nurses who dispense and make modifications in medication or who conduct physical examinations must possess a Master of Science in Nursing, A.N.A. certification, and certification in a specialty which included primary health care services.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program The PSLF Program forgives the remaining balance on your Direct Loan after you have made 120 qualifying monthly payments under a qualifying repayment plan while working full time for a qualifying employer, such as a U.S. federal, state, local, or tribal government or not-for-profit organization. You may be able to consolidate a Federal Family Education Loan (FFEL) and Federal Perkins Loan into a Direct Loan to qualify for PSLF.

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
