The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (NYC DOHMH)'s Bureau of Hepatitis, HIV, and Sexually Transmitted Infections (BHHS) oversees the City's response to viral hepatitis, HIV, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). Its mission is to improve the lives of New Yorkers by ending transmission, illness, stigma, and inequities related to viral hepatitis, HIV, and STIs. BHHS's work includes testing initiatives; prevention, care, and treatment programming; epidemiology and surveillance; training and technical assistance; community engagement; social marketing; policy advocacy; and racial equity and social justice initiatives. The STI Program of BHHS has an opening for a Special Assistant (City Research Scientist I). The Special Assistant will work closely with and report directly to the Executive Director of STI Programs, but will provide support to leadership of all three STI programs: Epidemiology, Research, and Evaluation; Program Implementation and Improvement; and Surveillance and Field Operations.

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

Scheduling meetings, maintaining an events calendar, and sending reminders.
Facilitating meetings, as needed.
Preparing materials, packets and presentations for Executive Director's meetings, senior leadership team meetings, off-sites, and all-staff meetings.
Recording and disturbing notes at meetings, as requested.
Maintaining records of decisions and ensuring that action items are clearly recorded.
Organizing documents for review/signature of the Executive Director.
Updating and maintaining database of program staff and key contacts.
Monitoring, coordinating, and reporting on multiple and diverse projects.
Assisting in organizing and/or generating reports, Power Point presentations, materials.
Performing other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qual Requirements

1. For Assignment Level I (only physical, biological and environmental sciences and public health) A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.
To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above, candidates must have:
1. A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
2. A master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least a master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in "2" above. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in "1" and "2" above.

Probationary Period
Appointments to this position are subject to a minimum probationary period of one year.
