Job Description
Purpose
Under direction, with very broad latitude for independent action or decision, performs exceptionally difficult and responsible professional and/or supervisory work in the field of psychology.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
In addition to performing duties of the lower Assignment Levels at a more difficult and responsible level, performs the following tasks.
1. Lead Psychologist in the Child & Adult outpatient behavioral health department service
2. Design and run mindfulness-based intervention programs in the outpatient and inpatient behavioral health department, and offer in-service training in mindfulness based approaches.
3. Serves as consultant regarding psychological testing, and performs psychological, neuropsychological, and/or psycho-educational testing on children and adults as indicated.
4. Performs competency evaluations for MR/DD patients.
5. Coordinates and manages Individual Behavior Plans (IBP) on the Psychiatric Inpatient Program (PIP) units.
6. Responsible for psychiatric assessments, individual psychotherapy, group psychotherapy, crisis intervention, and chart work in the outpatient behavioral health department as assigned by clinic director.
7. Perform walk-in evaluations of new child and adult patients when necessary.
8. Collaborates with inpatient unit staff on admission/discharge decisions.
9. Plans, organizes and supervises psychological service programs and/or units and participates in the development of program objectives.
10. Keep abreast of and implement new regulations that pertain to the OPD and coordinate training and education regarding new OPD regulations and policies.
11. Advises on kinds of services to be rendered, areas to be emphasized, and utilization of psychological services to help meet overall program objectives.
12. Consults with administrative and/or medical staff regarding general policies which affect psychological services.
13. Supervises the work of psychologists, psychology staff, psychiatry residents, and other staff as needed, and acts as a consultant to them on problems they encounter.
14. Initiates programs and writes grant proposals to receive independent funding for the programs.
15. Conducts in-service training programs by organizing and staffing conferences and seminars, drawing up curricula, and evaluating efficiency of programs.
16. Participates in the psychology training program as indicated by the Director or Chief Psychologist.
17. Represents psychological services to, and speaks before, lay and professional organizations.
18. Participate in departmental Performance Improvement projects.
19. Prepare and submit reports as necessary.
20. Participate in research activities, as appropriate.
21. Counsels and guides patients, their families, and/or significant others relating to psychiatric treatment, physical health, and progress.
22. Performs related duties such as quality assurance activities, representation at administrative meetings, etc., as assigned by the Director.
Minimum Qualifications
SPECIAL NOTE # = Additional Requirements for Assignment Level III
For assignment to Assignment Level III, individuals must have the following in addition to meeting the minimum Qualification Requirements for Assignment Level I above:
A. The Doctoral Degree in Psychology as described under Special Note A. for Assignment Level II, and
B. A valid license as a Psychologist issued by the New York State Department of Education; and
C. Four years of satisfactory full-time experience in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, School Psychology, Forensic Psychology, Clinical Health Psychology, or Neuro-Psychology, of which at least one year must have been under the direct supervision of a qualified Psychologist or Psychiatrist, and at least three years must have been in a supervisory capacity as a licensed Psychologist.
D. License Requirements for Assignment Level III
For assignment to Assignment Level III, a valid license as a Psychologist issued by the New York State Department of Education. This license must be maintained for the duration of the assignment.
