POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the general supervision from the Chair of Department, the New York Film Academy, Instructors will provide instruction for students to develop practical skills & theoretical knowledge for their respective disciplines. Additionally, faculty members may be called upon to serve on departmental committees, thesis committees, and as other departmental support. Position reports to the Department Chair of Photography.

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following responsibilities are general duties that a particular employee in this position may or may not be required to

perform. The day-to-day duties required of this position may vary.

• Deliver instruction in accordance with the learning objectives set for the course, including practical skills, methods, theories and techniques.
• Provide one-on-one consultations with students, if and when necessary.
• Develop & manage course syllabus materials & lesson plans.
• Facilitate peer assessment and encourage discussion & constructive criticism in class.
• Assess student work, including but not limited to, assigning projects, papers and exercises.
• Submit attendance & grades promptly to the Registrar’s Office, and inform the appropriate administrative staff if students are not meeting academic standards and need academic support; if students are suspected of committing plagiarism; if incidents occur in class which causes an unsafe learning environment for students & faculty.
• Adhere to institution-wide policies & procedures and follow the correct protocol with respect to disciplining students.
• Attend & participate in faculty meetings and/or departmental curricular meetings, if requested by the Department Chair.
• If requested, serve as advisors or on Thesis Committees and evaluate undergraduate or graduate student Thesis work.
• Prep and organize gear for class; can include, but is not limited to film and digital cameras, lights and various stands (no gear out weights 35 lbs.)
• Guide students through hands-on classes, handling the equipment doing some minor lifting and shifting of gear that students will use for their intermediate and thesis films (again no gear out weights 35 lbs.)
• Work closely with admissions and financial aid staff to advise new students (e.g., evaluates transcripts; develops plans of study, etc.).
• Provide academic advising to returning students, individually or in groups, about College policies, programs of study and degree options. Provide students with information about alternatives and possible consequences of academic decisions.
• Support career services by counseling students on career options and guiding their development of job search skills. Assist career services staff with special projects.
• Interpret and administer NYFA policies and procedures.
• Establish and maintain relationships with assigned Department Chair/Program Directors to understand and clarify departmental expectations. Maintain current knowledge of all the degree and certificate programs.
• Work closely with the Academic Office and Student Services to connect students to academic support (e.g., tutoring).
• Complete other advising duties as requested such as: track retention, authorize add/drops, and conduct degree audits. Keep advising statistics, work schedule and other reporting documents up-to-date.
• Participate on committees as requested.
• Participate in professional conferences and other self-directed professional development activities.
• Other duties as assigned by the Department Chair and by senior management

KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES:

• Broad knowledge of the industry and professional experience related to their respective department.
• Knowledge of Adobe Premiere Pro, AVID Media Composer and DaVinci Resolve.
• Knowledge of Photoshop and After Effects.
• Broad & in-depth knowledge of the subject area or discipline where they teach.
• Substantial professional experience in their respective department.
• Collaborative willing to work with fellow instructors on any required departmental work, such as curricular development and planning.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision but can also work well in a team.
• Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION:

• Bachelor’s Degree. Experience may substitute for required education up to four (4) years
• Substantial industry & teaching experience for Instructors teaching undergraduate and certificate programs.
• Fluent in listed digital software and able to teach digital editing concepts, non-fiction editing aesthetics and theory using the software.
• Experience in narrative storytelling and editing non-fiction work.
• Experience working in a higher education setting.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint

• Microsoft Office Suite Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
• Google Documents
• FileMaker Pro
• Apple hardware products (i.e. Mac, etc.)
• Office equipment including, but not limited to, computer, phone, fax machine, copier and calculator.
• Adobe Premiere Pro

• Reasonable dexterity of hands and fingers to operate and/or manipulate computer keyboard and other office equipment.
• Verbally and effectively communicate utilizing face-to-face contact and telephones.
• Reasonable dexterity of hands and fingers to operate and/or manipulate computer keyboard and other office equipment.
• Lift, carry, push and/or pull documents/boxes weighing up to 35 lbs.
• Part time schedule to be determined. May require evening and/or weekend work.
