The NYISO’s Regulatory Affairs department invites applications for a full-time Media Relations Program Lead.
The Media Relations Program Lead is responsible for developing and executing media and public relations strategies that communicate the value of the NYISO and enhance the company’s reputation as a leader in the industry. The position serves as the primary point of contact for the media, coordinating accurate and timely responses to inquiries and establishing strategic relationships with various traditional print, online, broadcast and trade journal news outlets. The position is responsible for designing and implementing a robust media and thought leadership program and is responsible for the development of content and collateral material on key company initiatives for publication. The role prepares NYISO executives for media engagement, plans and facilitates media briefings and other press events. The position engages NYISO subject matter experts regularly in response to media inquiries and supports overall media engagement strategies. This position has primary responsibility for monitoring news coverage, developing press releases, articles, op-eds, newsletters, executive talking points and media briefing presentations. The position also is responsible for supporting the NYISO External Affairs communications strategy through collaboration with Corporate Communications and other elements of the External Affairs team.
- Develops and leads development of strategies in support of a pro-active media relations program that strengthens ongoing reputation management efforts.
- Collaborates closely with the Corporate Communications team ensuring a consistent and integrated presence across communication platforms and channels.
- Serves as a principal public information officer, fielding press inquiries and briefing reporters to distill complex energy industry issues into understandable and transferrable material for the media, and government officials.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree (BA, BS), in Business Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or related discipline.- At least ten years combined experience in professional communications/media relations and government relations. Working knowledge of the energy industry is highly preferred. This position requires extensive knowledge of media relations and governmental operations. Expert written and oral communication skills are required. Crisis communications experience preferred
