Duties Description
Reporting directly to a Deputy Counsel, SG-NS in the Office of the General Counsel (OGC) of the New York State Division of Human Rights (DHR), the Associate Counsel, SG-NS will assume the role of Director within various units within OGC. Duties include, but are not limited to:

This position is eligible for $3,400 location pay.

Duties Description
Reporting directly to a Deputy Counsel, SG-NS in the Office of the General Counsel (OGC) of the New York State Division of Human Rights (DHR), the Associate Counsel, SG-NS will assume the role of Director within various units within OGC. Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Supervises attorneys assigned to litigate housing cases in State Supreme Court from the filing of the complaint through trial.
- Assigns cases and monitors case activities.
- Analyzes legal issues, develops legal strategy with assigned attorneys, and supervises the implementation of legal strategies.
- Fosters and encourages teamwork and communication, reinforces and maintains staff accountability, and provides assistance to attorneys as needed.
- Ensures Attorney’s compliance with the NYS CPLR, Court Rules, and established policies and practices of the Division.
- Reviews and approves the filing of complaints, pre-trial motions and settlement agreements.
- Assists attorneys in preparing for depositions.
- Oversees and assists with all phases of trial (jury selection, opening statements, examination of witnesses and summation).
- Responds to complainant concerns if needed.
- Coordinate staff trainings with the Director of Training to enhance skills and update legal knowledge.
- Prepare and submit necessary grant reports.
