What are the responsibilities and job description for the Prep Cook position at Oak & Orange?
Oak and Orange Hospitality is looking for a hardworking teammate/cook to manage the prep and assembly of various food items for our eatery and market in the heart of Mineola, Long Island. Our mission is to provide clean and approachable food to the local community, through our curated eatery menu with prepared goods and our market inventory.
Initially, we will operate as a pop-up with limited hours (roughly M-W, 10AM-3PM, roughly 25 hours per week including prep). This person would be responsible for:
- Prep and assembly of 10-12 food items, comprised of mostly bowls, sandwiches, juices, and dips. The majority of the items we sell will be pre-batched and made to sit in our bakery case or grab-and-go refrigerator.
- Follow recipes, take direction, and suggest thoughtful changes. Ensure consistency is always maintained.
- Observe food safety, sanitation, and quality procedures.
- Ability to work with ownership to ensure operations are always running smoothly.
- Handle DOH/DOA visits with ownership and ad hoc requests to ensure Oak & Orange is compliant with local requirements.
- Assist ownership with deliveries and restocking market shelves when requested, plus any additional duties assigned.
- Assist with POS/ringing up customers when requested.
Desired Qualifications:
- 3 year of experience in a kitchen as a prep cook, sous chef or related position, preferably in a fast-casual setting
- Desire to learn and lead the kitchen in an entrepreneurial atmosphere.
- Willingness to roll up your sleeves and work as a teammate with ownership.
- Ability to stand and/or walk the entire shift.
- Possess a current NY Food Handlers License or willingness to get one.
- Be able to commute with ease daily to Mineola (storefront is located next to train station).
- A passion to serve high-quality fresh food.
- Excellent communication.
- An eye for detail and problem-solving.
- The ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
