The Oak Park Public Library seeks a part-time Information Technology Specialist to join its Technology Services team.

Under the direction of the IT Operations Supervisor, the person selected for this IT Specialist position will contribute to providing the best library experience possible and advance the library’s vision, mission, and strategic direction by:
- Working with the library's technology infrastructure, servers, applications, computer systems, telecommunications, website, and local and wide area networks to provide future-focused services and tools that ensure exceptional access, bandwidth, speed, and security.
- Maintaining and updating current systems
- Implements new systems
- Supporting and training library staff and customers
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Support the library’s technology services efforts to meet the needs of the public and uphold the library’s mission, goals, and objectives
- Perform day-to-day operations and tasks for the library's telecommunications, local and wide area networks, network infrastructure equipment, server hardware, software, firmware, operating systems, anti-virus, voicemail, phone system, Integrated Library System, Automated Materials Handler, RFID systems, and other assigned systems
- Troubleshoot and support users on PC hardware and software, help desk functions, documentation of systems and procedures, and maintaining equipment database
- Maintain, repair, and install new and existing computer equipment
- Provide training and assistance for internal users and the public
- Assist in installation projects and systems troubleshooting, which may require working off-hours
- Assisted in technology purchases, equipment inventory, and technology expenditure tracking
- Collaborate with other staff to evaluate services and develop strategies for achieving library goals
- Coordinate with vendors, managers, and other staff to assist in planning projects, recommending hardware/software purchases, implementing new systems, and other duties as needed
- Maintain an awareness of products, services, technology applications, and trends by reading technology and library literature, news media, and blogs
- Manage updates and backups, as well as help maintain the library’s public and staff website and integrated third-party software. These include content management systems, catalog, digital signage and meeting room reservations, and other cloud-based or locally hosted services
- Support standard reporting and custom analytics, across digital platforms
- Develop organizational and technical skills as needed

Education and Experience
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or another relevant field or proven record of equivalent information technology work experience.
- Experience with and an advanced knowledge of computer hardware, Windows and Apple operating systems, software, and networking.
Preferred
- Experience working in a public library
A combination of education, professional, and lived experiences that demonstrate the ability to successfully meet the position’s requirements may be considered.
Details
This position is part-time, 20 hours per week. Weekend hours are required. The weekly schedule is as follows:
- Sunday from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Sunday’s schedule has some flexibility, but you must arrive before the library opens at 12:00 pm.
- Two weekdays from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm. These weekday shifts are flexible, but you must work at least two shifts from Monday through Thursday.
- Saturday from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm.
As part of the greater compensation package, part-time (20-hour) library staff members receive generous benefits, including:
- Enrollment in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF), a premier defined benefit (pension) plan for Illinois municipal government employees

- 48 hours of paid health leave annually
- 26 hours of paid personal leave annually
- Up to 13 paid holidays each year (only if regularly scheduled to work on the day of the holiday)

Starting hourly rate range: $25.00 to $30.00. Offers are made within this range based on competencies, experience, and internal equity.
