Software Quality Assurance Intern

APPOINTMENT TYPE: Temporary

LOCATION: Oak Ridge, TN or Remote (US Based Locations)

SALARY RANGE: $17.40 - $23.27 per hour

THIS INTERNSHIP IS A 10-WEEK ASSIGNMENT

PURPOSE:
This position is an internship working under the supervision of a professional software quality assurance analyst to learn the fundamentals of software quality assurance, software quality control, and software test automation. The intern will engage in monitoring and analyzing system logs, testing code before it is released to production, and maintaining automated test suites.

Test new features and bug fixes before they are released to production.
• Create and maintain scripts that automate test steps.
• Carry out regression tests and perform quality audits on software.
• Write and update accurate and repeatable test steps.
• Monitor system logs and create bug tickets derived from errors in production.
• Engage in the agile process and contribute to meetings.
• Compile and release software to cloud based development and staging environments.

High school diploma and 2-4 years of job-related experience or pursuing an undergraduate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field is highly preferred. An equivalent combination of education and experience performing duties as described may be substituted for the minimum requirements.

• Experience working with relational databases in either a professional or academic environment.
• Experience in software development in either a professional or academic environment.
• Experience with troubleshooting web applications in either a professional or academic environment.
• Must have a fundamental knowledge and experience working with relational databases (SQL).
• Must have a basic understanding of common internet protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP, SFTP, etc.).
• Must have an awareness of cybersecurity threats relating to web applications (SQL-I, XSS, CSRF, etc.).
• Must be able to write code in at least one programming language (Python, Java, C#, C , C, etc.).
• Must have good communication skills, both written and verbal, especially for a technical audience.
• Must have strong attention to detail.

*The candidate's starting salary will be determined upon hire and ORAU will use salary survey data, internal comparators, and the candidate's qualifications to determine salary.
