This position will require the applicant to perform research in advanced manufacturing with a focus on the electrical systems design and integration. The scientist will contribute through electrical system design to ORNL’s efforts to become a leader in robotics and intelligent systems for manufacturing.

Purpose

The Department of Energy Manufacturing Demonstration Facility and the Advanced Manufacturing Group at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) are seeking an experienced electrical engineer (design, integration, troubleshooting) to conduct projects, expand research, and manage R&D in the development of projects to support the manufacturing R&D portfolio. The specific focus of this job posting is to fill a research need in the area of robotics and electrical systems.

Major Duties/Responsibilities

You will:

• Contribute to R&D projects and lead the expansion of R&D in robotics and intelligent systems.
• Support electrical design and integration efforts toward developing state-of-the-art manufacturing (additive, subtractive, composites) and robotics platforms
• Support large technical projects related to advanced manufacturing through electrical systems design
• Guide work of and mentor students and interns

Qualifications Required

The position requires:

• 
  A BS or MS in Electrical Engineering with a focus on electrical system design, integration and troubleshooting (signal and power).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills to support team building and leadership are required.
• The demonstrated ability to manage project schedules, scopes, and budgets is required.
• This position requires access to technology that is subject to export control requirements. Successful candidates must be qualified for such access without an export control license.
