Overview:
Oak Ridge National Laboratory is the largest US Department of Energy science and energy laboratory, conducting basic and applied research to deliver transformative solutions to compelling problems in energy and security.
We are seeking a Vacuum Cryogenic Engineer who will support the US ITER Vacuum Team in the Manufacturing Systems Division within the US ITER Project at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Be the US ITER responsible offer for the vacuum cryogenic system design, performance, operational and safety requirements on all issues related to the vacuum cryogenic system
- Work with the ITER organization to ensure all requirements are met for the cryogenic systems and successfully resolve conflicting requirements
- Develop technical specifications, perform analysis, and support design efforts of the Vacuum Cryogenic Equipment
- Analyze and align the interface requirements between the cryogenic system and the upstream and downstream interfacing systems
- Lead the design review team for vacuum cryogenic equipment and prepare for final design review and acceptance
- Develop procurement packages for the fabrication of the cryogenic equipment and act as Technical Project Officer for these procurements, monitoring the fabrication cost and schedule as well as resolving technical questions which may occur during the fabrication efforts.
Basic Qualifications:
- An Bachelor's Degree in engineering or STEM related field and a minimum of 8 years experience. A combination of education and experience may also be considered.
- Experience with the design, operation, and/or fabrication of cryogenic equipment
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree is Preferred.
- Experience overseeing fabrication operations of cryogenic equipment
- Experience in monitoring fabrication facilities to assure requirements and schedule are met, while controlling cost.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work independently and to participate creatively in collaborative teams across the laboratory
- Ability to function well in a fast-paced research environment, set priorities to accomplish multiple tasks within deadlines, and adapt to ever changing needs
