Overview

Under direct supervision from the Assistant Director of Operations, the Operations Manager will perform oversight of all operations staff and daily operations as assigned. Duties include technical support of events, set-up/teardowns, groundskeeping assistance and provide operational coverage for all scheduled events and/or performances.

 

The Operations Manager will work closely with the Cotton Bowl Managers, Event Managers, F&B Managers, Facility Manager, various vendors, and contracted labor on all events within and around the Fair Park campus. Other duties include assisting other departments as needed and the maintenance and proper use of all operational equipment within and around the Fair Park campus.

 

This role will pay a salary of $46,000 to $58,000.

Responsibilities

 

  • Set / strike equipment (Audio Visual/portable systems, Bike racks, barricades, tables, chairs, staging, box offices, risers, pipe & drape, etc.) according to pre-determined floor plans for events in an efficient, timely, accurate and professional manner
  • Liaison for all Audio-Visual vendors providing service for events and any repair/maintenance to existing or future equipment
  • Create staff schedules
  • Maintain Inventory Control
  • Create and review weekly work assignments with the Assistant Director of Operations
  • Oversee and assist staff in the set-up and tear down of a variety of equipment, including, but not limited to chairs, tables, staging, risers, trash cans, etc.
  • Support, maintain, and inventory all AV Equipment providing inventory and maintenance reports to the Director of Operations
  • Supply AV support (if needed) to all sporting events, concerts, festivals, special events and family shows
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of ribbon boards, scoreboards, and other Audio Visual systems and equipment
  • Provide assistance to touring shows for tie-ins to house system as needed
  • Oversee staffing for all broadcast and AV positions required for each event
  • Provide event manager with pre-event staffing estimates and post-event staffing actuals in a timely manner
  • Coordinate and advance broadcast technical pack with various networks and their respective crews
  • Assist in the planning of park & power for broadcast trucks, layout of broadcast compound and planning use of camera locations within the stadium.
  • Provide excellent customer service assistance to internal and external clients
  • Oversee and perform customary Housekeeping / Janitorial duties when necessary: clean floors, restrooms, furniture & equipment, walls, windows, fixtures, doors, and other areas and items throughout the campus
  • Work on preventative maintenance plans to maintain cleanliness, appearance, and safety of the park
  • Operate an assortment of equipment including forklift, high-lifts, vacuum, pressure washer and other vehicles as required
  • Read and interpret paperwork regarding event specifications
  • Work a flexible schedule including early mornings, days, evenings, overnight, weekends, holidays, extended (long) workdays and extended numbers of days
  • Assist Event Managers on all aspects of event setups including confirming layouts, equipment rentals and staffing
  • Report defective equipment, facility damage, areas of the park requiring cleaning and incorrect or improper set-ups to supervisors in a timely manner
  • Coordinate with Assistant Director of Operations to continually train, motivate and evaluate staff; provide or coordinate staff trainings, give direction to and oversee assignments to full time/part-time staff and on call/temporary Labor Workers
  • Multi-task under time constraints and with moderate to high pressure situations
  • Communicate clearly and concisely in the English language, both orally and in writing
  • Provide clear directions to others
  • Maintain a calm demeanor while providing corrective feedback to team members during stressful and/or time sensitive situations
  • Perform other duties as required

Qualifications

  • Audio Visual and some technical experience is a must
  • Proper use and maintenance of hand and power tools 
  • Help create applicable safety rules and procedures
  • Forward facing and Customer Service focused
  • Work from general instructions and specifications, with no supervision
  • Oversee staff with the proper use and maintenance of a wide variety of equipment including vans, pick-up trucks, forklifts, high-lifts, and other vehicles as required
  • Provide directions to staff of 20
  • Forklift certification is a plus
  • Work effectively in a service-oriented environment subject to frequently changing priorities
  • Communicate clearly and concisely in the English language, both orally and in writing
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, contractors, vendors and facility users
  • Ability to work various workdays and hours to meet business needs including early/late hours, long days, weekends and holidays. Must be reliable and punctual
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form

Physical Demands:

  • While performing duties, the employee frequently lifts and moves facility equipment, supplies and/or tools. One will constantly move about inside and outside various areas of the facility before/during/after events; position will require employee to frequently bend, stoop, or crouch in order to set-up equipment in various areas of the building and grounds. Employee may be required due to business demands and event operations to lift and/or move up to 100 lbs. 

Work environment:

  • The duties are performed indoors and outdoors in weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually minimal to moderate during non-event days and when not operating equipment and moderate to loud during event days when equipment is in operation. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to hot or cold temperatures and/or wet or humid conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and may work with chemicals such as cleaners, paint, and solvents.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 18 years old
  • Two to three (2-3) years of increasingly responsible experience in management in an arena, stadium, theatre, convention center, hotel, or other public assembly facility
  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Proficient knowledge of Word, Excel & Outlook; working knowledge of Ungerboeck is a plus
  • Knowledge of, experience in and/or strong interest in Events is preferred
  • Must have current Driver's License (2) years good driving history
  • Ability to work flexible schedule based on event needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Supervisory experience a must
