Responsibilities
The Registered Nurse is one who plans, coordinates, delivers, and evaluates nursing care for patients whose protective reflexes or self-care abilities are potentially compromised during operative or other invasive procedures. Although the RN works collaboratively with other perioperative professionals (e.g.: Surgeons, anesthesia professional, surgical technologists) to meet patient needs, the RN is accountable for the patient outcomes resulting from the nursing care provided during the operative or other invasive procedure. Using clinical knowledge, judgement, and clinical reasoning skills based on scientific principles, the RN plans and implements nursing care to address the physical, psychological, and spiritual responses of the patient having an operative or invasive procedure..
Qualifications
MINIMUM EDUCATION
Graduate from an accredited school of nursing. Bachelor’s degree in nursing preferred.
MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE
Two years of Perioperative services experience preferred or graduate of AORN Perioperative 101.
REQUIRED LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Current licensure in Texas as Registered Nurse. Certified though the American Heart Association in BLS. ACLS required within 6 months of hire. PALS/ENPC preferred.
WORK SCHEDULE
Normally scheduled Monday through Friday. Work hours may fluctuate to accommodate the OR schedule. Must be flexible if required to work long or irregular hours; sometimes in excess of 12 hours. During low census/patient procedures the OR employee may be required to leave early or flex days off.
