Overview:
Oakbrook Preparatory School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Band Director to join our faculty in nurturing the musical talents of our students. As a small private school, we pride ourselves on providing a personalized and supportive learning environment where each student's potential is realized. The Band Teacher will play a crucial role in fostering a love for music and guiding students in developing their skills within our band program. Many opportunities are available to build a robust program with your passion for music.

This can be a part time or full time position. Position can start immediately or in the fall of 2024.

Responsibilities:

  • Curriculum Development: Design and implement a comprehensive band curriculum that aligns with the school's educational objectives.
  • Instruction: Provide engaging and effective instruction in instrumental music, including proper technique, music theory, sight-reading, and ensemble performance.
  • Individualized Instruction: Offer individualized support and guidance to students to help them progress at their own pace and reach their full potential.
  • Ensemble Direction: Direct and conduct various band ensembles, including concert band, pep band, and other specialized groups, fostering a sense of teamwork and musical expression.
  • Performance Coordination: Organize and oversee regular concerts, recitals, and other performances to showcase students' achievements and promote community involvement in the arts.
  • Instrument Maintenance: Maintain the school's inventory of musical instruments and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition and arranging for repairs or replacements as needed.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with other music teachers and faculty members to integrate music education with other areas of the curriculum and support cross-disciplinary learning opportunities.
  • Parent Communication: Communicate regularly with parents regarding students' progress, upcoming events, and opportunities for involvement in the band program.
  • Professional Development: Stay current with trends and best practices in music education through professional development opportunities, workshops, and conferences.
  • Student Advocacy: Serve as an advocate for students' musical interests and needs within the school community and beyond, promoting the value of music education.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education or a related field
  • Valid (or retired) teaching certification/license (preferred, not required)
  • Prior teaching experience, preferably in a K-12 setting
  • Proficiency in multiple instruments, with expertise in at least one primary instrument
  • Strong knowledge of music theory, ensemble techniques, and music pedagogy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate students
  • Commitment to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and community stakeholders
  • Candidates must agree with Oakbrook's Statement of Faith
