RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

The Supervisor of Clinical Services assumes responsibilities common to all Administrative and Supervisory positions as described in the Agency Manual. This supervisor is a key member of the Treatment Services management team, providing oversight of the clinical practice at assigned sites and assisting the director and assistant director in assuring the orderly translation of Agency goals and values into practice.

The Supervisor of Clinical Services reports to the Director of Treatment Services.

SPECIFIC DUTIES/JOB EXPECTATIONS

  • The Supervisor of Clinical Services will provide supervision to clinicians, case managers and peers, individually and/or in unit meetings, at a level determined by the need of individual members of the clinical team. The supervisor will assess the skills of all supervisees, keep fully informed of their activities, and assist the director with annual performance appraisals of clinical staff.
  • Collaborate with those assigned for supervision to develop and implement increased levels of professional skill.
  • Utilize multiple resources for completion of assigned tasks such as: case consultations, co-counseling consultation with other staff, readings, training seminars and workshops. Personally provide in-service training as deemed appropriate.
  • Review and prioritize all new intakes for final review.
  • Maintain a current awareness of the marketplace and trends that may impact the provision of behavioral health services to individuals and families in the community. Communicate findings to the regional team.
  • Participate in program improvement and/or further program development as needs of the service population are identified.
  • Perform tasks related to assigned caseload and other work assignments as described; and perform selected and additional assignments as required.
  • Assist in expansion of referrals by going into the community and developing/maintaining key community relationships; attend community meetings as appropriate and determined by the regional team.
  • Provide direct service to clients, as determined in consultation with the Director of Treatment Services.
  • Provide assistance and leadership through supervision, consulting, teaching, and/or coaching clinical staff in the conduct of their responsibilities.
  • Conduct formal presentations to internal and external audiences as deemed appropriate.
  • Participate in assessment of particular problems or practice and assist in the clarification and solving of problems.
  • In partnership with Director of Treatment Services, analyze staffing levels and needs; and based upon results, screen candidate resumes, participate in interview and hiring process.
  • Actively participate in the promotion of integration of services across the agency. Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Successful completion of the requirements of a Master's Degree from an accredited school of social work; or its equivalent in a related field, such as education, psychology, guidance and counseling, etc., as appropriate to the needs of the particular position and program of the Agency.
  • State certification or licensure to the maximum level possible, commensurate with accrued experience and degree obtained.
  • Must hold Certified Advanced Alcohol and Drug Counselor Credential with the state of Michigan.
  • Must hold a Certified Clinical Supervisor credential with the state of Michigan or have a development plan in place.
  • Selected candidates for this position must possess a sensitivity to the diversity of the Agency’s service population including (but not limited to) differences of culture, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Demonstrated competency in supervisory skills and ability to provide successful community outreach.
  • Five years of full-time employment in a related field.
  • Special abilities and skills necessary to perform the required tasks also will be considered. Any standard above may be waived when compensating specifications or circumstances exist.
