Job Posting for Facilities Maintenance Tech - Second Shift at Ocean State Job Lot
The Facilities Maintenance Technician role at Ocean State Job Lot (“OSJL” and “Company”) is responsible for maintaining working order within a variety of facilities and services including but not limited to performing general maintenance, cleaning, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, masonry and renovations, and floor tile repair. This role is also responsible for the repair and painting of small appliances and vending machines. The Facilities Maintenance Technician role works as prioritized and directed by the Facilities Manager according to maintenance schedules and needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide general maintenance support by completing any needed minor electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and masonry repairs throughout the facility
Maintain work equipment or machinery and replace worn, damaged, or defective parts when needed
Clean and provide preventive maintenance of all Johnson Air units
Maintain working function of all dock doors/overhead doors and dock plates
Clean the warehouse, including emptying barrels and using floor machines
Work in compliance with OSHA requirements and company standard operating procedures
Maintain a neat, orderly, safe, and clean work area in alignment with OSJL’s safety standards
Build and move furniture when required
Safely operate material handling equipment (MHE) including forklifts, pallet jacks and scissor lifts. Must pass all safety and equipment operations training provided by the company
Build, install, and repair warehouse racking systems
Perform minor repairs to vending machines as needed
Assist with outside grounds maintenance as needed, including but not limited to shoveling and removing snow and applying ice melt during the winter months
Maintain work equipment or machinery and replace worn, damaged, or defective parts when needed
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
3-5 years previous experience required. Experience in industrial warehouse environment/distribution center preferred
Successful prior track record as a carpenter/craftsmen required
Ability to meet area productivity, quality, safety, housekeeping and attendance standards
Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
Familiarity with Johnson Air Handler units is preferred
Experience with dock levelers/overhead doors preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work primarily in a distribution center environment. Physically active position including positioning oneself, moving, transporting, and ascending and descending ladders and scaffolding. Must be able to remain stationary and/or continually move for up to 10 - 12 hours per day.
Responsible for physical activities including using equipment, position self to properly complete tasks, ascend and descend to heights of 20 feet or more. Should be able to lift and move 50 lbs of material on a regular basis.
While performing the duties of this job, the associate may be exposed to outside weather conditions and/or moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, or electrical components. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
Some work in a climate controlled environment with minimal safety/health hazard
potential. Some sedentary, and near vision use for reading and computer use.
