At Reality Labs Research (RL-R), our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences.We are looking for a Mechanical Engineer with experience developing and shipping products for wearable devices while considering a broad range of business and hardware requirements including materials, manufacturability, form factor, ergonomics, and integration of technologies on softgoods substrates. We are specifically looking for a candidate with a track record of effectively working with leadership (Directors, VPs) to influence the business direction and drive engineering teams to deliver state-of-the-art technologies. Here, this person will elucidate the value of various hardware research outcomes. The candidate will also be energized by strategically developing the skills of the mechanical team and enabling cross functional partners who are focused on all layers of the stack: novel materials, haptics, sensors, firmware, software, and AI.
Mechanical Engineering Lead Responsibilities:
- Lead mechanical architecture for multiple prototypes simultaneously as part of cross-functional engineering team, ensuring all mechanical aspects of development are covered ensuring program success.

Provide architectural and integration technology based constraints to focus and enable future hardware research.

Work across full product development cycle to deliver robust mechanical designs from concept to production.

Partner with cross-functional researchers and lead mechanical engineering teams and activities to deliver scalable wearable devices.

Mentor and develop a large team of mechanical engineers in partnership with the management team.
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Masters in Mechanical Engineering, a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience

10 years experience in 3D CAD modeling (NX or similar) and physical prototyping

Experience advancing design and manufacturing technologies to enable better products (e.g. injection molding, lamination, and similar)

10 years of experience developing high-volume consumer products with stringent SWAP-C budgets in such as wearables, mobile devices, or similar

Experience influencing business strategy based on domain expertise
Preferred Qualifications:

History of growing and developing the engineering excellence of a mechanical team

Elastomer material expertise applied to wearables textile (knit, nonwovens) expertise and integration techniques

Extensive invention and patent portfolio

Demonstrated experience leading overseas suppliers in an ODM or JDM model

Demonstrated experience leading industry standards and/or supplier state of the art
