What are the responsibilities and job description for the Studios Technical Lead position at Oculus?

As a Technical Lead you will be working directly with a team of seasoned video game producers – and the world’s best game studios – to deliver triple-A titles based on top-tier global IP. You will be joining a team that is managing multiple large projects at any given time, utilizing your game development expertise to support teams and software in development; participate in project gate reviews; solve production problems in collaboration with our producers and our partners; add leverage where needed; and improve internal processes and execution. Coming into this role, you will have the experience to quickly build strong partnerships across multiple internal cross functional groups, external studios, and IP partners. Your strong track record demonstrates you can work with our teams to instill confidence and identify gaps in our technology strategies.


Studios Technical Lead Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Studios producers to ensure timely delivery of large and complex projects built by internal teams and external partners, including some of the top studios and brands in the world, by working through influence to identify and solve technical, process, development and production issues.
  • Serve as a bridge between platform/OS development teams and content development teams to minimize collisions and compatibility issues. Evangelize value-add platform features to content teams.
  • Act as a liaison between internal product leaders, software leaders and Studio partners on technical plans, software development roadmaps, features and policies.
  • Advocate for issues that our teams and titles need addressed
  • driving, tracking and reporting out on resolutions.
  • Evaluate, track, and report on technical progress, results, risks, mitigations and opportunities.
  • Suggest solutions for technical challenges and bring the right people together to solve problems and resolve bottlenecks. Without setting mandates or asserting direct control over the teams, connect the right people, set the framework and context, and communicate frequently while forming collaborative relationships.
  • Jump into critical service outage situations, assess the problem, gather the right people and drive the issue to resolution as quickly as possible, mitigating any impacts to our customers.
  • Understand technical plans for our biggest investments
  • identify issues and propose solutions whether internal or off the shelf.
  • Translate strategy into plans that are clear and measurable, with progress shared out monthly to stakeholders.
  • Serve as a bridge between our development and legal teams to vet our titles through the lens of privacy and integrity.
  • Potentially take over complex projects with multiple owners and drive them through completion.
  • Occasional domestic and international travel for this role may be required.



Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or related
  • 10 years experience in AAA video game development
  • In-depth game engine experience (Unity, Unreal, etc.)
  • Experience developing for new platforms and/or handheld devices
  • Solid understanding of the game development life cycle, tools and processes, from pre-production to launch and onward to live services
  • Demonstrated interest for video games and familiarity with multiple genres of VR, PC and/or console games
  • Interpersonal skills with emphasis on building productive and positive relationships with first- and second-party developers, managers, peers and cross functional partners



Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proprietary game engine experience
  • Experience developing VR applications/games
  • Platform development experience
  • Experience working directly with external developers to release content on a platform
