What are the responsibilities and job description for the Independent Living Manager position at Odle Management?
Reports to the Social Development Director and is a salaried, exempt position. Plans, directs, and administers the activities of the residential living program. Demonstrates on-going commitment to preparing young people for the workforce by modeling, mentoring, and monitoring excellence in the eight Career Success Standards of: workplace relations and ethics; information management; communications; multicultural awareness; personal growth and development; career and personal planning; interpersonal skills and independent living.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Directs and plans for the Social Development department’s needs. Manages the activities of the Shift Supervisors and Dorm Coordinators to ensure that students’ needs are met.
- Knowledgeable on National Job Corps New Vision goals, Region business plan, projects and initiatives ensuring the New Vision language is incorporated into the center goals.
- Ensures that center maintains the highest level of data integrity in all reporting of center statistics and metrics.
- Conducts regular staff meetings and employee training sessions.
- Provides monthly and weekly activity reports to the Social Development Director.
- Prepares reports, budgets, and objectives for the residential living components.
- Ensures that order and discipline are maintained in dormitories, while promoting self-discipline and an awareness of others.
- Ensures orderly and clean-living conditions.
- Oversees social skills and student leadership sessions.
- Attends required staff training sessions.
- Facilitates prompt and appropriate assistance to students in the event of injury, illness, emotional trauma, arrest, trouble at home and other traumatic experiences.
- Ensures that departmental equal employment and affirmative action goals and objectives are met.
- Interviews and selects staff.
- Prepares and conducts performance evaluations.
- Cultivate and maintain a climate on center that is free of harassment, intimidation, and disrespect to provide a safe place for staff and students to work and learn.
- Clearly communicates and consistently models appropriate CSS and employability skills including personal responsibility and computer fluency.
- Maintains accountability of staff, students, and property, adheres to safety practices in all areas of responsibility.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field.
- Four years related experience working with at risk-youth; two of which must be in a managerial capacity.
- Prefer Job Corps experience.
- Must possess knowledge of computers and software such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Valid driver’s license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record.
Additional Requirements: Ability to effectively relate to trainee population. Ability to inspire and motivate staff and students. Strong management skills. Ability to handle multiple priorities. Ability to obtain and maintain CPS/First Aid certification. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Position requires an ability to operate office equipment. In addition, individual must be able to interact with team members and maintain an effective working relationship with all facility staff and departments.
Working Conditions: This position involves frequent sitting and occasional standing, walking, stooping, and squatting. Applicant must be able to see, hear, and speak.
Environmental Demands: Position requires ability to spend 5% of work time outside and 95% of work time indoors; ability to withstand moderate noise levels, including voice levels 90% of work time; ability to work in high temperature settings during the summer months; and ability to work in low temperature settings in winter months.
