How You Will Contribute:

The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for coordinating and supervising the facility’s nursing staff.  Position is responsible for ensuring a safe and therapeutic environment.  The Director of Nursing provides direct client care, takes physician orders, prepares, and administers resident medications, and coordinates outside diagnostic or medical services as ordered by the physician.  This position will serve as the Infection Control Designee.

 

Essential Responsibilities

  1. Provides leadership and supervision to the nursing team, to include hiring, training, coaching and performance management. 
  2. Able to assess suicide/homicide risk and create clinically appropriate interventions.
  3. Demonstrates an understanding of identifying abuse/neglect in client population.
  4. Documentation is timely, thorough, follows format, satisfies requirements, and outlines plan of care/therapy issues, assessments, safety issues, and handled in a highly confidential manner.
  5. Demonstrates the ability to chart vitals, daily assessments, group notes, shift notes, and enters physician orders.
  6. Completes comprehensive nursing assessments and aids in the development of a treatment plan. 
  7. Demonstrates the ability to chart vitals, daily assessments, group notes, shift notes, and enters physician orders. 
  8. Demonstrates the ability to perform physical assessments including vital signs and to recognize symptoms and distress of clients in treatment. 
  9. Administers medications; provides education to clients and their families about medications; completes medication orders/refills per physician’s orders. 
  10. Provides medication management and oversite ensuring accurate accounting of medication charting/procedures/training for all nursing staff. 
  11. Manages the nursing area including ensuring that medications are secured, and only authorized individuals have access. 
  12. Ensures all admission/discharge nursing duties are conducted and documented within required timeframes.
  13. Documented assessment of abnormal involuntary movements (AIMS) in clients receiving antipsychotic medications
  14. Works closely with vendors and contractors providing clinical services (ie. pharmacy, lab, biohazard pick up, etc.) to ensure proper communication and procedures are followed; provides account management. 
  15. Demonstrates proper management of biohazards.
  16. Oversees and performs daily vital signs/glucose monitoring of clients.
  17. Oversees medical issues daily and report issues to Nurse Practitioner as needed.
  18. Oversees and performs medication distribution and documentation.
  19. Orders medication and ensures proper delivery from pharmacy.
  20. Works with insurance companies on patient medications, completes insurance forms, and calls as needed.
  21. Oversees and performs blood draws, following up on lab values as needed.
  22. Takes medication orders from MD/NP conducts daily medication order follow up.
  23. Maintains medical supply inventory, places supply orders as needed.
  24. Coordinates external client medical appointments with team members.
  25. Ensures all admission/discharge nursing duties are conducted and documented within required timeframes.
  26. Ensures effective communication between medical/nursing staff, medical vendors, and C.N.A/Behavioral Technician team.
  27. Provides medication management and oversite ensuring accurate accounting of medication charting/procedures/training for all nursing staff.
  28. Works closely with registered dietitians on client weight restoration needs/issues.
  29. Monitors all labs/EKGs/other tests and communicating results with medical providers.
  30. Oversees all pharmacy paperwork/forms-includes controlled substances.
  31. Oversees infection control program and quarantine program for staff/clients.
  32. Maintains biohazard accounts and procedures, ensuring team members are trained on and adhere to infection control procedures.

 

Additional Responsibilities

  1. Conducts occasional reviews with insurance companies.
  2. Coordinates and oversees administration of annual vaccines.
  3. Responsible for being on-call as scheduled.

 

Qualifications


What We Are Seeking:

Position requires a bachelor’s degree in nursing, active state Registered Nurse license, and 5 years of experience Nursing/Clinical Experience. Previous mental health treatment experience strongly preferred.

Must maintain current CPR/1st Aid/ AED certification.
