POSITION SUMMARY

Oesterlen Services For Youth, Inc. is seeking a Director with a bachelor's degree in social services and five years of experience providing direct care to clients in a residential treatment center, another treatment facility to provide leadership and direction for the Oesterlen Residential Treatment Programs. High-quality services are the expectation with the responsibility for the same vested basically in this position. Participate with other service directors in an advisory capacity to the CEO and Board of Directors. It is essential that the broad view of Oesterlen as an agency be maintained, with all services being of equal importance and with priorities set according to to need and resource availability.

The ideal candidate for this role should be a highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills to work closely with the Cottage Therapist(s) to provide leadership and direction to the treatment team. Plan, organize and coordinate a therapeutic program and environment. Provide direct supervision to clients and Specialized Service Providers. Demonstrate efficient and qualitative management skills with programming for emotionally disturbed adolescent clients with broad spectrums of mental illness, autistic spectrum disorders, and/or developmental delays.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Assume overall responsibility for program development in the Residential Cottages and On-Campus School.

  • Provide program supervision for the Residential Cottage Programs and the residential referral and admission functions. Supervise the Residential Associate Director, Residential Case Managers, Registered Nurse, Residential Care Supervisor, and Residential Manager.
  • Must assist with residents who are experiencing crisis situations, including physical management.
  • Must participate as a member of the agency’s Management Team relative to daily operations of the agency.
  • Must ensure all laws, licensing rules and regulations, and other external mandates are met or exceeded.
  • Must participate in regular staffing of all residents, which includes treatment review and planning, or delegate as appropriate.
  • Must maintain the role of the final decision maker on all discharge decisions.
  • Occasionally schedule and conduct assessment interviews.
  • Cooperate in the planning and implementation of quality assurance activities and research projects when requested by the Chief Executive Officer.
  • Be knowledgeable of leading research and current literature relevant to providing treatment to clients in a residential setting.
  • Ensure the various components of the residential program work together as a team to provide the best treatment possible to the clients.
  • Work in a collaborative effort with all the various departments comprising the agency as a whole.
  • Must attend, participate, and present at workshops, conferences, in-service training, etc., to enhance skill development and develop contacts in the community.
  • Must assure the employment of persons necessary to the functions of the service in numbers approved by the Board of Directors and with necessary qualifications for each position, including professional licensing. Regularly review needs for each position, and evaluate annually.
  • Participate with the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Executive Officer in budget development and adherence. Ensure the Residential Treatment Program is provided in a culturally competent manner.
  • Be alert to public relations and development needs and possibilities, and participate as necessary in same.
  • Must Participate in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention training and successfully pass both the written and physical tests.
  • Must Be physically capable of successfully performing a physical restraint without injuring the client, him/herself, or other staff members.
  • Must Have the stamina and endurance to keep up with a group of very active adolescents, both physically and emotionally, for eight or more hours per day.
  • Such other responsibilities as may, from time to time, become necessary and are assigned by the Chief Executive Office.
  • Must attend, participate, and present at workshops, conferences, in-service training, etc., to enhance skill development and develop contacts in the community.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Work involves some standing, walking, running, lifting, pulling, and pushing heavy loads and sitting. The Residential Director must be mentally and physically capable of working in an environment with very aggressive adolescent clients who may attempt to physically attack and/or intimidate staff members and supervisors. The Residential Director must be physically capable of being physically active for eight or more hours per day.

A physical abilities test is required to ensure the Residential Director is physically capable of performing a successful physical restraint within the guidelines specified by Cornell University’s TCI Training Course and without injuring the client him/her self or other staff members, and to ensure the Director has the stamina and endurance to be physically active for eight or more hours per day.

Some travel in-state required; moderate to high levels of stress.
