The Office of the Second Judicial District Attorney improves the quality of life of the citizens of Bernalillo County by reducing crime through thoughtful enforcement of the law and the development of a criminal justice system. The Office is an Equal Employment Opportunity Employer and is seeking applicants for a Special Agent position in Albuquerque. Under the supervision of the Special Agent in Charge, the Special Agent is a sworn law enforcement officer who performs state-of-the-art criminal investigations supporting the prosecution of cases, and conducts analysis of evidence, and data to identify individuals and networks driving violent crime in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Additionally, this division will be focused on supporting the Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women and Relatives (MMIWR) project. Opportunities to work on local and federal task force(s) are available.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: This position requires knowledge of: criminal law, procedures, tactics and equipment; surveillance techniques; interview and interrogation skills; investigatory skills; writing skills; communication skills; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other law enforcement agencies and other criminal justice system participants; ability to interact effectively with the public; ability to follow directions and policies of the District Attorney’s Office; ability to use the District Attorney’s Case Management System.
Requirements: Associates degree in criminology, criminal justice, police science or a related field, or two (2) years work experience in related field, plus New Mexico Peace Officer Certification.
Preferred Qualifications: New Mexico Peace Officer Certification, plus three (3) years work experience, education and/or training in law enforcement; investigations or related field.
Working Conditions: Work is performed both in the office and in the field investigations; considerable physical effort may be required. May be required to be on-call during non-working hours, at the discretion of the Special Agent in Charge. May encounter dangerous situations. The Special Agent will be authorized a take home vehicle for the sole purpose of work use. This position is typically an 8-5 Monday-Friday with some exceptions. Numerous training opportunities are available internally and externally.
