Qualifications:
You must meet the following requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
For the
GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the
GS-12 grade level in the Federal service
. Specialized experience for this position includes:
- Analyzing, defining, and implementing network requirements for a large scale multi-site enterprise level network environment; AND
- Administrating and maintaining core network data center infrastructure supporting large scale multi-site enterprise level network environments; AND
- Analyzing and resolving problems related to Network services provided; AND
- Administering network monitoring and management software; AND
- Analyzing operational issues to develop Network policies.
Examples Include:
- Experience supporting a large-scale enterprise level network of 10,000 or more end users spanning at least 10 different sites as:
- Analyzing and implementing network requirements AND
- Sustaining core network data centers AND
- Evaluating developmental operation issues, recommending new approaches, and administrating development of Network software policies.
In addition to specialized experience, individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below.

4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
Responsibilities:
As an IT Specialist, you will:
- Plan and implement computer hardware and software upgrades, platform migrations, and computer security policies on an agency-wide basis; and troubleshoot and resolve technical problems with the design and delivery of end user services.
- Perform system administration on Windows and Unix-based servers under IOD's purview located in hosting sites and other local or remote environments.
- Act as a senior service line expert, project leader and technical expert, demonstrating initiative, providing guidance and facilitating mentorship to subordinates and peers.
- Participate in or prepare cost benefit analyses as they relate to equipment procurement; develop this data in enough detail and required format so that approval of request is facilitated.
- Provide expert technical advice and assistance to users to enable them to meet present and future technical requirements; attend approved formal training sessions, vendor, and industry seminars and meetings to keep apprised of the state of the art.
